Pfizer Senior Corporate Counsel, Digital in New York City, New York

ROLE SUMMARY

This Digital Implementation counsel position will provide enterprise legal support and matrix management for Data Science, Architecture and Developer teams. The successful candidate will play a critical role providing counsel and strategic input on legal issues related to Artificial Intelligence including generative artificial intelligence, machine learning and the law. Working with product managers, engineers and other stakeholders across the enterprise including Data and Machine Learning teams, the successful candidate will manage the risks from product development to deployment. The core function of the job will be to provide advice and counsel to cross functional teams in a matrixed setting and to help establish and implement appropriate processes and procedures for healthcare technology development and operations with a strong emphasis on good data practices and the legal issues associated with technology build, development and deployment. The successful candidate will be able to develop risk assessments associated with the technology issues and may also be required to provide transactional assistance.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • General understanding of cloud industry technologies IaaS, PaaS and SaaS platforms

  • Create and deliver AI/ML related legal training and other related knowledge-based projects.

  • Experience advising on artificial intelligence (AI) including machine learning and generative AI.

  • Manage matrixed teams through complex legal issues.

  • Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in the legal tech space, particularly with respect to generative AI and advanced data management.

  • Coordinate with internal privacy attorneys on privacy assessments of products and services.

  • Maintain a constant, deep knowledge of legal issues related to emerging technologies (i.e., cloud, artificial intelligence/machine learning, data usage, etc.). Participate on select technology and business unit committees and working groups.

  • Lead cross functional teams by providing enterprise level legal advice regarding legal risks and mitigation options for innovative AI proposals and use issues, including:

  • Emerging AI regulations

  • AI in healthcare

  • High Impact AI evaluations and guidance

  • Assisting Transactional legal team in bringing transaction templates and guidance up to date with emerging AI risks and issues

  • Synthesize advice from other Legal subject matter experts (including country/regional, privacy, regulatory and digital transaction counsel) to ensure consistent legal support on relevant issues across the Pfizer portfolio worldwide.

  • Develop and support implementation of relevant policy and guideline updates.

  • Implement updates to various agreement templates, related guidance and other instructional documents, as needed.

  • Provide training to the business and other legal colleagues.

  • Collaborate with other Digital Implementation team members to support each other.

QUALIFICATIONS

MUST-HAVE:

  • JD or equivalent law degree.

  • Admitted to practice law and member in good standing in the relevant jurisdiction.

  • 10+ years legal experience, preferably in the tech industry, or in a law firm.

  • 3+ years focused on Artificial Intelligence.

  • Strong interest in, and commitment to, the legal subject matters relevant to this role (eg. Following NIST guidelines, EU AI Act, etc).

  • Excellent research, writing, counselling and communication skills and a client-service orientation.

  • Ability to work independently, as a team member, and across the organization to influence decisions.

  • Ability to manage a busy and diverse workload, and quickly and proactively identify and analyze the most critical legal issues

  • Ability to identify areas that are of lower risk and develop appropriate principled based guidance for clients.

  • Accountability, sound judgment, and the ability to take ownership of an issue and provide concise and timely advice.

  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

NICE-TO-HAVE :

  • Computer Science background is a plus.

  • Think critically and creatively in fast paced settings to assist teams in appropriate ways to operate.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $205,400.00 to $342,400.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 25.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
