Federal Reserve Bank Head of CEO & COO Communications in New York City, New York

What we do:

The Executive Office is comprised of key organizational units reporting directly to the President and First Vice President of the New York Fed. As part of the Executive Office, the Head of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) communications will serve as head speechwriter and lead executive communications support for the CEO and COO.

*Your role as Head of CEO and COO Communications: *

*You will provide strategic communications counsel, define key messages that support the Bank’s goals, and develop compelling content that resonates across modalities and channels. The Head of CEO and COO Communications will develop the full complement of the New York Fed CEO’s spoken and written communications, including those to internal and external audiences. You will be responsible for writing and editing speeches, talking points, white papers, opinion pieces and other stakeholder communications on monetary policy and other Federal Reserve topics of importance to the Bank’s CEO. You will work closely with the CEO, COO, and internal and external communications colleagues across the Bank to develop those communications, ensuring consistency of tone, message, and substance. *

  • Develop strategic written and spoken, internal and external, communications for the CEO and COO, including but not limited to, speeches, op/eds, blogs, presentations, conference materials, briefings, and staff notes;
  • Manages messaging on complex and nuances issues to ensure clarity and consistency of messaging to key internal and external stakeholders;
  • Seeks out and recommends public speaking platforms for the CEO to help advance public policy positions and key business objectives;
  • Partners with community development, media relations and government relations colleagues to monitor current events that may inform or impact the CEO’s positioning/messaging, as well as the timing and frequency of stakeholder engagement;
  • Works closely with the head of Community Development & Outreach, People & Engagement (H.R.), and other key senior leaders to gather and incorporate market intelligence and/or internal stakeholder feedback into CEO briefing documents;
  • Travels with and provides support to CEO at speaking events

What we are looking for:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience writing and editing executive-level communications in the public or private sectors with an emphasis on executive speechwriting;
  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, English, or a related field; advanced degree desirable;
  • Education or career experience in the areas of economics, finance, or public policy and an aptitude for engaging in dialogue with stakeholders in these areas;
  • Expertise in speechwriting, executive communications strategy, storytelling, and messaging strategy to a wide range of audiences with the ability to understand audience dynamics and tailor remarks to achieve objectives;
  • Superior writing and editing skills along with a track record of successful communication to a wide range of audiences through a variety of formats and adjusting the communications according;
  • *Background working with senior leaders to convey messages in their style, tone, cadence, and word choices so that communication is authentic and represents the style of the speaker; *
  • *Experience developing PowerPoint presentations and visual decks that bring a presentation/speech to life for an audience; *
  • *Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive work environment; *
  • Critical thinker with experience synthesizing complex ideas and putting together crisp, logical, and memorable arguments;
  • Travel estimated at 20-30% (when the work from home mandate is lifted)
