Job Summary/Basic Function: Teachers College is hiring a Director, Digital Campus, who will lead oversight of TC’s website, tc.columbia,edu, and play a key role in supporting institutional CRM and email communications. The Director, Digital Campus, will focus on ensuring that digital content, presentation and functionality meets audience needs as well as advancing the institutional objectives of the college, especially in the areas of enrollment, development and overall branding. The Director, Digital Campus, will direct and manage digital projects including planning for a full-site redevelopment to commence in FY22-23; working with a developer to implement new features, functionality and content initiatives to TC’s web properties to improve the user experience on desktop and mobile platforms; and analyzing traffic and engagement across TC’s digital properties to drive increased engagement. Reporting to the Senior Director of Digital Communications, the position will work collaboratively with other members of the Digital Campus Infrastructure team, as well as the Brand & Creative Studio and Strategic Communications teams, Academic Programs and other administrative offices throughout Teachers College, including Enrollment Services, the Office of the Provost and Student Affairs. The position will manage an Email/CRM Manager, a full-stack Application Developer and will manage and/or collaborate with external vendors, various content producers and student workers. The Director, Digital Campus, will play a lead role in the following: User Experience (UX), Information Architecture (IA), Layout – The Director, Digital Campus will research and optimize the user experience as it pertains to information architecture, content hierarchy and visual design across the TC website using user testing, data and higher education benchmarking/best practices to drive decision-making and strategy. They will work with developers to create user flows, wireframes and various widgets for different user personas and different platforms including desktop, mobile web and mobile applications. They will collaborate on determining new features and functionality for the site, content structure for optimal web presentation, and opportunities to enhance the TC website through integration with existing databases and enterprise systems. Project Management – The position will project manage all major web initiatives, including scoping and disseminating project plans to project teams. They will facilitate meetings with stakeholders at all levels of the college to ensure communication and shared agreement on project objectives, and provide updates on project progress. Content Synergy and Collaboration – The position will collaborate with stakeholders and contributors to develop content strategies for TC subsections and microsites to ensure relevancy and engagement. They will advise on designing visuals that reinforce stakeholder objectives, edit copy for readability and clarity, adapt longer content to web-friendly formats, and modify content so that it is optimized for mobile-ready designs. Email/CRM - The Director will manage and support an Email/CRM manager responsible for managing a calendar of college-wide communications and newsletters directed at internal and external audiences. The Director will also work with the Email/CRM manager to ensure best practices in digital communications are being followed to increase engagement rates. Analytics – In collaboration with the Senior Director of Digital Communications, the position will create an analytics plan and disseminate regular insights on website and email audience behavior. They will develop a process for identifying which content and channels are meeting the needs and interests of our audiences, and make recommendations for adapting strategies accordingly. They will work with Advancement Services colleagues to integrate communications analytics into the prospect research and prospect management evaluation process. They will work with constituents across the college to provide data-driven best practices. Minimum Qualifications: At least six years of progressively responsible experience in a digital production or digital-first editorial position, ideally in a higher education setting Project management experience in complex organizations Experience with UX, IA, and CMS management and best practices Track record of success in developing, managing and implementing web projects from start to finish, and on deadline Strong background knowledge of HTML, CSS and JS, including their capabilities and limitations Experience directing mobile-first responsive design strategies for web and overseeing mobile application development Excellent organization and time management skills to collate material from multiple sources and produce web layout and content within tight deadlines Competence in project management, managing successful communications plans and content calendars High level of proficiency with web technologies and production processes Strong command of digital technology, software and trends Experience with complex content management systems (CMS) Strong background knowledge of CSS, HTML and JS Experience with content and UX requirements for mobile-first design Superior interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability and experience working across institutions and departments Ability to foster collegial, creative cooperation High level of integrity, quality and entrepreneurial spirit Aptitude for thriving in a fast-paced, multifaceted office environment Preferred Qualifications: Project management experience with multi-disciplinary teams Portfolio of work demonstrating UX, UI and IA design capability Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud Skilled with use of various Content Management Systems, analytics tools and CRM platforms, such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud or similar platform Copywriting ability and portfolio Ability to grasp graduate-level academic research, concepts and writing in a broad range of disciplines Exposure to email marketing/CRM platforms and best practices in coding for HTML email. Understanding of the role that email and CRM marketing plays in an omnichannel marketing environment and a vision for applying data-driven insights from web and email interactions to drive increased engagement and interaction
