We're looking for a mission-driven Apprentice, SmartLife Technology Programs who is passionate about creating more accessible, inclusive, and equitable communities across Canada where people with low vision have unlimited opportunities and can experience life free from barriers and discrimination.

Your Impact at CNIB

  • Provide personalized and administrative support for CNIB SmartLife clients and customers through all associated programs, including Connecting with Technology, Phone it Forward, Tech Mate, Technology Subsidy, and Tech Fairs programs.

  • Assist participants with basic setup and troubleshooting of their iOS devices.

  • Assist in the facilitation of in-person and virtual, one on one and group, interactive workshops to inform and instruct blind and partially sighted clients in the use of their iOS, Android, and Windows devices (including built-in accessibility features).

  • Assist in required research, project development and implementation, for special initiatives that support organizational goals.

  • Assist with outreach to program participants to gather program evaluation feedback, and to promote further program information.

  • Respond to program inquiries and register clients to programs with accuracy and within prescribed response times.

  • Assist clients and customers in navigating the SmartLife Centre and e-commerce web-store; recommend technology and devices that meet client needs; and facilitate purchase transactions through the Point of Sale system.

  • Assist in developing and integrating creative programmatic strategies to engage SmartLife clients and customers, with existing and new SmartLife accessible programs and technologies.

  • ·Assist in informing and educating participants of the current accessible and assistive high-tech solutions through 1:1 and group, in-person, Tech@Home, virtual and digitally recorded demonstrations, and product testing groups.

  • Refer clients and participants to CNIB and VLRC services as appropriate.

  • Document and report all client service provision as directed.

Who you are:

Education and Certifications

  • Relevant training and experience in a related field.

  • Training specific to the position, including teaching basics, orientation to assistive technology, and training in built-in accessibility features such as Zoom, Narrator, and VoiceOver.

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada; and legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills and portrays the appropriate professional image.

  • Proven administrative, time management, and organization skills; amenable to changing priorities, deadlines, and procedures.

  • Advanced computer skills, with proficiency in; iOS platforms, web applications, and MS Office software including Excel, Word Outlook, and Microsoft Office 365.

  • Experience and aptitude with accessible and assistive hardware and software.

  • Experience with Salesforce an asset.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills, customer services oriented.

  • Professional attitude, reliable, results oriented, self-directed, and flexible.

  • Consistently exhibits a sensitive, mature, and responsible nature, as well as emotional and social professionalism.

  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Must be able to travel independently.

  • Good interpersonal skills and enjoy teaching others, patient, friendly and empathetic.

  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.

  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.

Work Environment

  • This position has a primary base at the CNIB SmartLife Centre in New Westminster, BC, along with some remote work opportunity.

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
