- Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments. 2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports. 3. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities. 4. Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures. 5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities. Preferred Education: Experience in the conduct of research and/or working with persons with infectious diseases and substance use disorders preferred but not required. Experience with data entry and working in databases preferred but not required. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Experience in the conduct of research and/or working with persons with infectious diseases and substance use disorders preferred but not required. Required Skill/ability 5: Willing to learn research skills including how to conduct study interviews, including standardized measures of substance use and HIV medication adherence and collection of biological specimens. Ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule and prioritize work appropriately. May require some weekend and evening hours. Willing to travel throughout Connecticut. Work Week: Standard (M-F equal number of hours per day) University Job Title: Research Assistant 1, HSS Required Skill/ability 1: Willing to work with people: living with HIV or other infectious diseases; living with substance use disorders including injection drug users. Willingness to work in justice settings like CT Department of Correction facilities. Required Skill/ability 4: Proven computer skills and ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite. Required Skill/ability 2: Ability to communicate with and build relationships with community partners and other agencies and the CT Department of Corrections, including government officials and representatives working in corrections. Ability to work effectively with people of different backgrounds and levels of education. Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associates degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelors degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
