  1. Independently oversee and lead all financial aspects of a discrete entity, including submission of all tax documentation, communicating with government agencies, and other activities requiring independent discretion and decision making. 2. Drafts preliminary financial sections of proposals. 3. Reviews all proposals for accuracy, completeness, and compliance to grantor and University requirements and regulations. 4. Monitors, controls, and maintains financial activity of accounts. Ensures expenditures are posted to proper accounts. Identifies, researches, and corrects questionable expenditures. 5. Serves as the principal source of information on financial policies and procedures and financial activity. 6. Reconciles and analyzes financial statements. Prepares standardized and specialized financial reports and analyses. 7. Oversees and instructs support staff. Oversees the maintenance of financial records and files. 8. Contributes to the development and implementation of systems and procedures. 9. Assists in calculation of weekly payroll for department staff. 10. May act as lead person in absence of the supervisor. 11. Performs clerical functions incidental to accounting activities. Required Skill/ability 1: Demonstrated ability to run and interpret financial reports from large financial applications, such as Workday, Power Bi, or the Yale Budget Tool (YBT). Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and advance Excel, including demonstrated ability to analyze, manipulate data, and develop financial reports within spreadsheets. Required Skill/ability 2: Working knowledge of financial administration and the demonstrated ability to read and interpret policies, procedures and guidelines, and to disseminate information from a wide variety of sources. Demonstrated ability in coordinating and overseeing budgets and understanding of a general ledger, journal entries, and cost transfers. Required Skill/ability 3: Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively address multiple projects, often with conflicting deadlines, with high degree of accuracy. Ability to work independently. Excellent judgement, initiative, and problem-solving skills. Required Skill/ability 4: Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse group of people and multi-task. Ability to maintain a pleasant and professional demeanor with sound acumen. Ability to schedule and plan meetings. Ability to provide coverage and assistance to other areas based on operational needs. Required Skill/ability 5: Strong knowledge of Yale financial policies and procedures, travel guidelines, reimbursements, honoraria, consultant services agreements, subcontracts, for sponsored and non-sponsored funds. Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field at 4 years work experience. Proven experience in research administration, sponsored research principles and guidelines preferred. Formal education or training in bookkeeping or accounting with strong mathematical proficiency.
