- Operates animal care processing equipment according to safety guidelines on either clean or dirty side of specific washing centers. Detects and reports malfunctioning and /or defective equipment. 2. Transports dirty caging to washing center to disassemble for proper cage wash processing. 3. Fills clean cages with measured amount of animal food and bedding and reassemble caging. 4. Provides clean supplies and equipment to research faculty and staff using animal facilities. 5. Performs cleaning and disinfecting of assigned areas throughout the animal research facilities. 6. May receive and put away supplies in appropriate areas. 7. Diagnoses mechanical, technical and/or process problems. 8. Provides special handling of BL2 materials. 9. Performs rodent euthanasia services according to established standards and practices. 10. May train and/or instruct staff on sanitation duties appropriate to level. 11. May act as a driver; operates a vehicle in order to pick up and deliver animals and materials to assigned locations, applies proper animal handling and care protocols. 12. Maintains accurate departmental support area record keeping. 13. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Skill/ability 1: Ability to follow YARC Standing Operating Procedure. Required Skill/ability 2: Ability to understand and use short notes, basic written instructions and forms; ability to understand complex and detailed protocols. Required Skill/ability 3: General knowledge of computer use and ability to monitor email. Required Skill/ability 4: Ability to manage multiple tasks independently. Ability to work effectively and flexibly with a diverse group of individuals within a large department. Required Skill/ability 5: Sensitivity to and appreciation of research animals.
