Human Resources Business Partner
The Human Resources (HR) Business Partner proactively delivers Human Resources objectives and special programs for multiple work groups within AEP Transmission, in support of increased employee and organizational effectiveness. Uses expert knowledge and proficiency in the functional areas of HR to provide innovative and practical customer-focused solutions that are aligned with the business needs and objectives.
Essential Job Functions:
Serves as the primary HR functional contact for multiple work groups within AEP Transmission; Obtains and maintains a deep understanding of business unit partners, and maintains a close accessible relationship with clients. Contributes proactively to the business strategy by helping business leaders to identify, prioritize, and build organizational capabilities, behaviors, structures, and processes and facilitates long-term initiatives aligned with the strategic agenda.
Develops credible and trusting relationships with senior leaders, managers, and employees, and assumes key role as chief HR advisor, within supported groups; Provides coaching and feedback to business unit leaders (in areas including but not limited to: fostering desired AEP culture, effectively managing employee performance, and effectively developing employees) so those leaders may continuously improve their leadership effectiveness.
Proactively counsels and advises business unit partners on employee relations and performance management issues, policy & procedure interpretation, and program administration.
Assists business unit partners in providing employees with development opportunities that align with current and future performance standards.
Acts as a liaison between business unit partners and HR to ensure that HR services are aligned with internal client needs, and identifies new opportunities for HR to add value to the business.
Coordinates day-to-day responses to HR issues, and partners with others in Human Resources to ensure timely delivery of HR services that directly support the accomplishment of enterprise-wide, corporate, Business Unit and departmental objectives; Works collaboratively with other HR groups and the organization to meet customer needs and expectations.
Assists Talent Acquisition team with testing, onboarding or other activities as available and requested.
Understands and solicits employee opinions and anticipates their needs and concerns; Develops and promotes ongoing feedback mechanisms for employees to influence the continuous improvement of HR services and processes.
Investigates and assists with the resolution of employee disputes and disciplinary activity within supported groups, and monitors trends to ensure effective management.
Proactively identifies and addresses HR policy and practice needs.
Identifies and drives the sharing of best practices across functions to facilitate continuous improvement.
Ensures compliance with state and federal employment laws and regulations including but not limited to Family Medical Leave Act, Fair Labor Standards Act and Americans with Disability Act, and assists with preparation of Affirmative Action Plan(s).
Assists with HR special projects and cross-functional activities as needed and assigned.

Education: Bachelor's Degree required, preferred in Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Labor Relations, or related field.
Experience: Four (4) years of human resources experience.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid Driver's License
OTHER REQUIREMENTS - ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Professional Certification in Human Resources, such as PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP, preferred.
Prior experience facilitating and ability to successfully utilize computer technology for process improvements and delivery of HR service to Business Units desirable.
Successful candidate will possess consistent and demonstrable ability to keep abreast of latest business trends, tools, and techniques through networking and leveraging relationships with groups, both internal and external, and by monitoring business environment and conditions.
