The Minnesota Sex Offender Program (MSOP) is a sex offense specific treatment program in a modified therapeutic community and secure setting that provides comprehensive services to 740 civilly committed clients. Services include sex offense specific treatment, education programming, therapeutic recreation, vocational programming, and volunteer services.

The Minnesota Sex Offender Program (MSOP) is seeking an individual to join our team for an exciting and rewarding opportunity as a Skills Development Specialist – Education at our Moose Lake, MN location.

In this role, the Skills Development Specialist provides client instruction for living a responsible life in a therapeutic community. These community living skills are presented in the following areas: skills of independent living, skills related to the educational/vocational environment, skills related to appropriate leisure time activity; general knowledge related to education, vocation and instruction. This position will oversee the library and Life Long Learning Lab (Voc/Ed classroom) and assist with education programming and volunteer services programming coverages, scheduling, and inventories.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Consulting with a multi-disciplinary team to initiate, oversee and implement individual treatment planning

  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating programming aimed at improving client success through instruction, training, and practice of life skills, skills of independent living, and positive socialization skills.

  • Working with teams and clients to develop, oversee, and publish community-specific newsletter that is supportive of the treatment environment.

  • Supporting the therapeutic treatment team through specialized therapy work, case consultation sessions, and facilitating skill-building psych educational groups

  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of educational work.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must have:

Two (2) years of administrative support, paraprofessional, or technical experience in a manufacturing or therapeutic services environment demonstrating the following:

  • Developing, facilitating, and/or evaluating programming aimed at improving client or staff success through instruction, training, and/or practice of independent living and positive socialization skills.

  • Advanced computer software skills sufficient to document client progress and program metrics

  • Engaging clients in therapeutic relationships

  • Applying theory, standards of practice, and evaluation in rehabilitation programming

  • Assessing needs and implementing appropriate crisis management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Journalistic, writing, or mass communication experience
