Lowe's Sr. Director, Finance Analytics in Mooresville, North Carolina

Job Summary:

The primary purpose of this role is to provide the strategy and roadmap for a team of statisticians and analytical professionals, allowing this team to drive successful decision making through analytical models and algorithms. This includes responsibility for scoping and determining team priorities, researching analytical trends and assessing their viability for the enterprise, and anticipating future needs. This role drives value by enabling improvements to the customer experience and/or reducing business costs. This role represents the Finance team, but also with researchers, educators, and other business and community leaders.

Responsibilities:

• Lowers cost to serve by developing and delivering optimization models for stores, merchandising, supply chain, digital and other key lines on the P&L statement

• Champions research and development efforts to improve model and algorithm performance using new methods and data

• Researches and proposes industry best practices to ensure that the team works as efficiently as possible and that Lowe’s analytical capabilities remain competitive

• Aggressively identifies new analytic capabilities and leads Finance organization through active adoption

• Collaborates with DACI to integrate and align data, research and methods to develop a single “source of truth as it relates to Financial Analytic data

• Coaches the professional development of team members to foster a supportive and collaborative culture

• Drives an awareness and understanding amongst Lowe’s leadership teams on how the Data Analytics combined with Financial decision support can be leveraged to support the strategic and operational priorities of the company

• Responsible for departmental budget and forecasting decisions, and budget allocation; ensures solutions are delivered in a cost-effective manner; analyzed budgets and helps forecast future trends to ensure Lowe's is cost effective by using data driven decisions

• Ensures the alignment, buy-in, and support of diverse project stakeholders by building and maintaining trusting relationships with internal customers, third party vendors, and senior management

• Drives strategy and growth for the organization by working actively across businesses and leadership to understand enterprise needs; translates business needs into broad analytic approaches and methodology and establishes meaningful learnings across numerous analyses and data sources that drive quality decisions and value to the business

• Develops function-level objectives and leads the development of large, cross-functional program/project plans to deliver the key activities of the department

• Oversees the creation of standard operating procedures and objectives and key results

• Provides strategic oversight of activities, approves resource estimates, and holds teams accountable to meeting established performance indicators

Test and Measure: ensuring key Strategic initiatives have clear measures of success in place and realization of intended benefit is measured, leading a team in optimizing Test & Learn activity and optimization for the various business units, developing financial and strategic analyses to translate business questions to actionable insights

• Oversees the completion of advanced analysis on consumer data in order to deliver actionable observations on how Lowe's as an organization can more effectively put the customer at the center of decision-making and capitalize on consumer insights

• Translates business challenges and opportunities into project ideas for the Digital Analytics Implementation team, proactively seeking business leaders with ways in which Customer Analytics can be beneficial to their function and reduce decision risk

• Oversees a portfolio of customer analytics projects, managing and delegating project work based on direct report capacity and expertise, ultimately ensuring that the final deliverables are high-quality and provide impactful insights

• Oversees successful maintenance of a foundational data center, bringing together multiple data sources and leveraging analytics from multiple shared service groups in a knowledgeable and thoughtful way

• Collaborates with senior leadership across functions, specifically Merchandising, Marketing, Store Operations, and Pro, in order to understand business needs and deliver actionable insights for ways in which Lowe's can more effectively capitalize on new consumers and existing consumers in order to ultimately grow market share

• Sets and adapts the strategy for the Digital Analytics Implementation group, maintaining and strengthening the market positioning of Lowe's through deep and actionable understanding of the consumer

• Maintains expert-level knowledge on analytical trends and emerging methodologies used in finding innovative ways to perform consumer data analysis and modeling used to derive valuable insights that drive the business of the Lowe's organization

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, Data or Information Sciences, or related field (or equivalent work experience in a related field)

  • 12 years of experience in Applied analytic experience spanning areas such as Merchandising, Commercial Business Support or other areas of retail operations (e.g., Supply Chain, Pricing, Services, Inventory management)

  • 7 years of experience in leading a large team of analytic professionals in retail, technology or other customer driven organization

  • Experience with SQL

  • Familiarity with enterprise-grade environments (Teradata, Hadoop)

  • Experience with analytical tools like Python, SQL, SAS, R, Adobe, Alteryx, Knime, Aster, etc.

  • Experience working with Enterprise level databases (e.g., Hadoop, Teradata, GCP, Azure, Oracle, DB2)

  • Experience using enterprise-grade data visualization tools (e.g. MicroStrategy VI, Power BI, Tableau)

  • Functional experience performing predictive analytics at a large scale enterprise

  • Experience performing advanced data modeling, data mining and exploratory data analysis (e.g., linear/logistic regression, ARIMA, Cluster Analysis)

  • Experience translating business requirements into analytics models

  • Experience working cross-functionally

  • Experience presenting /communicating analytics results to business partners

  • Corporate retail experience

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Business, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering or related field

  • Programming experience using tools such as R, Python

  • Data Science experience using tools such as ML, Text mining

  • Project management experience

  • Experience in home improvement retail

  • 12 years of experience in applied advanced analytics (specific to the Digital Analytics Implementation role)

  • 10 years of experience with advanced data modeling techniques (specific to the Digital Analytics Implementation role)

  • 10 years of experience in Project management experience (specific to the Digital Analytics Implementation role)
