Lowe's Principal Accountant – Sales & Use Tax in Mooresville, North Carolina

Your Impact

The Principal Accountant for Sales & Use Tax is primarily responsible for supporting the Manager of Indirect Tax Compliance with the coordination, facilitation and completion of assigned tasks related to sales & use tax compliance to ensure that Lowe’s maintains compliance for all sales and use tax jurisdictions. The incumbent will also assist with the review and approval of payments relating to sales, use and related tax returns each month for all filing entities.

This will require communication with various departments within the company to gather required information for sales tax return filing. Technical skill is also required to gather and analyze the information obtained to prepare the data for remittance each period as well as the ability to research sales tax in newsletters, state websites, websites used by the company for research purposes. In addition, the incumbent must be able to effectively communicate and explain information taxing jurisdictions as well as internal business partners and external customers as needed.

What You Will Do

  • Performs data retrieval and analysis to prepare accruals and process data to prepare for the next period filing.

  • Account Reconciliations

  • Manages workflow to ensure that all activities are completed in a timely manner to reduce any financial risk to the company.

  • Maintain current processes as well as automate processes within the sales tax department.

  • Research and analyze supporting documents and other details for accounting transactions and entries for Indirect Tax compliance functions.

  • Communicates effectively within the team, across other functions, and with external parties to ensure alignment.

  • Collaborate on special projects and resolution of non-reoccurring complex issues within the respective area to deliver optimal solutions to financial issues.

  • Provide excellent customer service via phone and email relating to sales and use tax matters for stores and other locations when necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field

  • 4+ years’ experience in Sales & Use Tax (public or private)

  • Intermediate to Advanced skills in MS office programs (Excel, Word, Access) and experience obtaining large data from various sources.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lowe's finance or accounting experience

  • Alteryx experience.

  • Knowledge/skills working with various large data sources such as Hadoop

  • CPA or CPA candidate

Pay Range for CA, CO, HI, NJ, NY, WA: $81,200.00 - $135,400.00 annually Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience.
