Lowe's Accountant (Sales Tax) in Mooresville, North Carolina

PURPOSE OF ROLE:

The primary purpose of this position will be the preparation of Indirect Tax Returns for Lowe’s U.S. and Canada operations, primarily related to state and local sales and use tax as well as environmental fees. Secondary responsibilities will include the preparation of business licenses, unclaimed property reporting, general ledger account reconciliations, indirect tax research and answer tax related questions from stores and vendors.

RESPONSIBILITY STATEMENTS:

  • Preparation and remittance of all of sales and use tax returns and environmental fees along with all associated payments by the statutory due dates.

  • Preparation of Business Licenses for New and Renewing Business activities

  • Prepare and evaluate data and/or reports for return and/or license preparation

  • Research various financial activities to identify issues, explain findings to principal accountants, managers, and directors to determine resolution

  • Maintain appropriate supporting documents, provisions, and other details for returns, payments, accounting transactions and entries for future audit purposes.

  • Communicate effectively within the team, across other functions, and with external parties to ensure alignment

  • Work with applications to handle large amounts of data and analyze and review prior to return preparation. Tools will include Excel, Access and Alteryx.

  • Review job procedures consistently to identify potential improvements that will increase the accuracy and efficiency of all assigned tasks

  • Respond to questions from stores and vendors relating to tax issues, volunteers for assignments and assists with projects in other areas of the tax function

  • Perform analysis (i.e. historical, forecasting, impact, etc.) and reconciliations to support monthly, quarterly or annual closing cycles according to prescribed rates, laws, and regulations, with review from senior roles where needed

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate's Degree in Accounting or related field; and 2-4 years of experience in accounting, tax, finance (public or private) or relevant experience OR

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business (Non-Accounting) or related field; and 0-2 years of experience in accounting, tax, finance (public or private) or relevant experience

  • Intermediate skills in MS office programs (Excel, Word, Access)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; and 0-2 years of experience in accounting, tax, finance (public or private) or relevant experience

  • Previous experience with Alteryx or Knime a plus
