What you’ll be doing

Under the direction of the Managing Director & Head, Global Trading & Beta Solutions, the Director, Investment Management Operational Excellence, will be the Total Investment Solution (TIS) team's subject matter expert on investment operations and the trade life cycles of all asset classes.

You will be responsible for or be an active participant in developing, enhancing and implementing process management as the cornerstone of Operational Excellence to help nurture commitment to changes. You will have direct ties with CAM’s Operational Excellence Committee and manage the efficient implementation of key initiatives. This necessitates an in-depth knowledge and understanding of processes, their effective management and the consistent application of optimization tactics to improve overall efficiency. This will entail closely collaborating with CAM, CIBC Wealth & Operation various teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and implementing solutions to address any gaps or inefficiencies. You will play a key role in strengthening the added value we provide to our clients and partners, by supporting the creation of new services, improving existing ones and documenting workflow processes. You will be working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that the team current and futures services aligns with the organization’s goals and objectives.

You will also serve as the team’s initial point of contact and actively support the team in onboarding and offboarding of mandates, projects and initiatives, including the implementation of new products or instruments, internalizations, new institutional clients, system enhancement, regulatory changes and any other ad-hoc initiatives. You will become the main subject matter expert (SME) and will be responsible for involving the right teams or other SMEs at the appropriate time. Your role will be crucial in ensuring the smooth and effective operation of the departments, and will require a strong understanding of financial instruments and the trading life cycle processes front-office to back-office, as well as excellent communication and coordination skills.

How you’ll succeed

  • Act as initial point of contact for new mandates, projects, and initiatives - including the implementation of new products or instruments, internalizations, new institutional clients, system enhancements, regulatory changes, and any other ad hoc initiatives. Analyze issues and errors to identify any relevant pattern or structural weaknesses in our processes. Ensure that the right teams are engaged at the right time, when needed involve other SMEs in a timely manner. Actively engage with CAM’s Operational Excellence Committee to manage the efficient implementation of key initiatives. Document and Participate actively in the implementation of new financial instruments and products. Act as a central point of contact across the different business partners, coordinate and communicate new or revised mandates to ensure successful transitions and implementations. Coordinate communication to stakeholders in case of issues impacting abilities for the Investments Teams to manage portfolios. Monitor industry trends and developments, identify potential opportunities for process improvement, and implement financial industry best practices. Contribute to the optimization of the daily operations by recommending and participating in the automation as well as continuous improvements of these processes and ensure no gaps exist. Document current workflows and analyze them for potential improvements, Identify and address potential bottlenecks or inefficiencies. Lead the solutioning process to resolve operational issues, when needed presents solutions in the form of workflows and brief presentations.

  • Client engagement - Participate in client and prospective client presentations to represent the operational processes of the team. Participate in any other projects and initiatives to support the business.

  • Relationship building - The role requires cooperation and collaboration with a variety of colleagues across the firm and enterprise, such as: All CAM groups and Teams, Business Management & Support, Execution Effectiveness & Research, TIS, Business Controls, Investment Controls, Global Operations, Wealth Management Technology, Wealth Management Compliance, Wealth Management Risk Management, CIBC Legal, External vendors

Who you are

  • You’re a certified professional. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, business area of concentration, or an equivalent combination of education, training, experience that would provide the knowledge, skills and ability required.

  • You can demonstrate a minimum of 15 years of working experience of financial services industry in an operations related capacity. In-depth knowledge of the life cycle of trade, all asset classes / instruments from an operation standpoint. Excellent understanding of CAM application ecosystem – Bloomberg, Thinkfolio, TMS, Pooled Fund System, OMGEO CTM, DTSS, Eagle and especially SS&C. Strong knowledge of investment products and global security markets. Knowledge of VBA, Alteryx and Python is an asset. Ability to coordinate and resolve project/ initiative/ ad-hoc requests that need to be attended to by the department. Analytic/ Systematic thought process.
