This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.

The opportunity

CBC/Radio-Canada operates one of the world’s leading technology on one of the largest private networks, which distributes its content and services across the country. CBC/Radio-Canada is immediately looking for a technical senior advisor to lead a team of highly qualified project leads with respect to Toronto’s revitalization project (e250) deliverable along with future project mandates by way of joining our Engineering team. This position requires an interesting mix of leadership and expertise with the authority to make key decisions under the guidance and collaboration of senior management across multiple stakeholders. This is a full-time permanent position, and the successful incumbent would be based in Toronto, with eventual and occasional travel to various other sites nationally.

Reporting to the Director, you will help to align the Production Engineering team deliverables, support the implementation of important initiatives, help to improve our standards and best practices, as well as build bridges with other departments.

As our new Technical Senior Advisor, you will:

  • Be responsible for equipment interoperability across production systems, providing technical advice and insight on architecture principles.

  • Participate in and provide advice on integrating these systems with the other technical dependencies.

  • Design high-level, innovative and practical solutions to complex problems of national scope, working closely with the Architecture and Project Management Office (PMO) teams. These large-scale projects will have a significant impact on operations and maintenance across the Corporation.

  • Liaise with clients and peers to define necessary requirements, while identifying opportunities to optimize facilities and their capacities.

  • Establish and monitor timelines and budgets for capital project programs nationally, ensuring that objectives are clear and achieved.

  • Oversee the entire procurement process, providing advice and direction on technology choices; act as the go-to resource when technical evaluation criteria are drafted for bid solicitations.

  • Actively participate in strategic planning for a platform or project portfolio, providing expert advice on costs, timelines and feasibility of capital requirements.

  • Help draft, edit and publish requisitions for high-profile and transformation projects.

  • Act as a technical expert during major procurement processes, presenting these initiatives to senior leadership.

  • Create system or platform concept proposals for review by our business partners.

  • Proactively contribute to creating a collaborative, efficient and agile work environment, while helping develop and maintain documentation.

  • Identify opportunities for improving our innovation workflows and suggest changes focused on increasing team effectiveness.

What you bring :

  • Three (3) years of experience in project management, specifically with the Agile approach.

  • One (1) minimum experience in a mentorship position and the mobilization of various technical resources.

  • Four (4) years of experience in delivery of important and highly complex technological projects.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science or Engineering, or a Diploma In Applied Science and Technology.

  • Membership, or eligibility to become a member, of the provincial Engineering Association (PEO, OIQ, etc.) is an asset.

  • Strong, influential and clear communication skills, in English and French, considered a strong asset.

  • Strong sense of ethics and business standards.

  • Expertise on various technologies: Networking, data centers, cabling infrastructure, IT systems, graphics and studio in a box systems.

  • Knowledge in audio/video production workflows and tools adopting SMPTE ST2110 and other IP industry standards, multicasting, cybersecurity, virtualisation, data management, agile software and applications.

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with employees, peers, partners, management and external vendors.

  • Ability to make complex technical decisions and delegate tasks to successful completion.

  • Ability to mobilize and adapt to new or conflicting priorities quickly.

  • Ability to travel to different CBC/Radio-Canada locations to oversee different phases of projects.
