Please note that this is a full-time position. The position will be stationed in Montreal.

Your role

As the Senior Specialist, Environmental Sustainability, you will be responsible to support the Health, Safety and Environment department and Sustainability Committee to develop, implement and maintain activities and initiatives supporting our environmental sustainability strategy, Greening Our Story.

The individual will be focused on impactful environmental change and action by working closely with all members of the Sustainability Committee, in English and in French, to support the adoption of greener practices and choices, as well as implementing other changes to help CBC/Radio-Canada advance its environmentally sustainable decision making and action and embed sustainable thinking in all we do.

You communicate well. You have an expertise in environmental sustainability. You will work with, share information and build green momentum with the business components and members of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Sustainability Committee including the Health, Safety and Environment team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Deployment of the Environmental Strategy; Supports the implementation of business component strategic plans including, but not limited to the following:

  • Develops environmental procurement criteria and involved in the environmental evaluation of procured goods, services or suppliers.

  • Explores sustainable transportation and commuting options across Canada and examines opportunities to engage employees in reducing their footprint.

  • Works with Production (English and French Services) to support resource development and sustainable production practices.

  • Manages and supports corporate functionality associated with the albert carbon calculator.

  • Maintains and updates Green Production Guides (microsites).

  • Supports communication and other activities related to improving waste management practices.

  • Assesses environmental impacts and improvement opportunities, taking the appropriate action to achieve optimal performance.

Committee Participation:

  • Participates at the Sustainability Committee.

  • Lead when required other working groups (e.g. carbon calculator, sustainable procurement, sustainable transportation) to facilitate the implementation of new programs and research initiatives.

Internal and External Representation:

  • Promotes environment objectives and programs among CBC/Radio-Canada personnel as part of ongoing employee engagement.

  • Represents the CBC/Radio-Canada in contact with external agencies.

Administration:

  • Establishes and maintains procedures to ensure internal and external communications pertaining to CBC/Radio-Canada policies, procedures, activities and performances pertaining to environment.

  • Oversees the development and maintenance of environment material for the Intranet Web site dedicated to the Health, Safety and Environment.

  • Develops, organizes, prepares and/or presents information sessions on policy, procedures and guidelines respecting environment.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or a combination of a degree and equivalent experience.

  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in environmental sustainability and with Canadian environment legislation.

  • Bilingualism required (English & French).

  • Experience in environmental sustainability in media sector (asset).

  • Experience in managing an environmental program in an organization (asset).

  • Must be familiar with sustainability concepts and programs.

  • Very good knowledge of environmental issues that could arise in a Corporation.

  • Ability to comprehend and translate the concerns of internal and external producers into appropriate environmentally sustainable actions.

  • Creativity and innovative problem-solving skills to address all policy and production issues in a manner which successfully balances multiple interests.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including an ability to work with both emerging and experienced producers - inside and outside CBC as well as with mid-level and senior management and industry leaders.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, and work under pressure.

  • Ability to exercise judgment and work independently taking initiative.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Able and willing to work beyond regular office hours during peak periods of activity as well as the flexibility to attend industry functions and events.

  • Able to travel in Canada when required.
