Jarislowsky Fraser Ltd (JFL) is looking for a Senior Investment Portfolio Analyst to join our high performing Investment Team. The Senior Analyst will be providing sector coverage on Technology, Media, and Telecom companies.

Key Accountabilities

The Senior Investment Portfolio Analyst will be responsible for the following:

  • Technology, Media, and Telecom sector coverage;

  • Analyzing financial information to determine current and future financial performance.

  • Evaluating annual reports and other regulatory filings;

  • Organizing collected information in an easily accessible format and writing succinct research briefs for use by the investment team in equity selection for portfolios.

  • Collecting tech. industry, company and economic information from multiple sources including on-line sources, institutional research, corporate reports, industry publications, management interviews, etc. to draft reports and make investment recommendations;

  • Generating a reasonable thesis for each investment position;

  • Providing ongoing coverage of relevant events to the investment team;

  • Reading and summarizing research reports for the purpose of making presentations and written reports;

  • Developing expertise on securities under their responsibility, and supporting other Analysts/PMs as necessary;

  • Maintaining work on securities held within the team's funds:

  • Maintaining current financial models on each company;

  • Updating the investment team with material information (e.g. Annual / Semi-Annual Reports, AIFs, Press Releases, other Analyst reports);

  • Meeting with company management regularly;

  • Attending industry seminars, consolidating, and reporting back relevant information to the investment team;

  • Actively participating in Analyst-focused activities across JFL

  • Collaborating with investment teams and contributing to sector-based discussions.

Desired Skills & Experience

The successful Senior Investment Portfolio Analyst will possess the following skills and experience:

  • University Degree preferably with a majorin Economics, Finance, Business, Computer

  • 5+ years buy or sell-side securities analysis experience.

  • Science/Engineering or related field

  • Prior experience in analysing Technology, Media and Telecom sectors.

  • Actively enrolled in the CFA program; CFA Charter Holder preferred;

  • Strong financial modelling skills, able to create complex models with minimal assistance and supervision;

  • Experience & knowledge of investment systems and software (e.g. Bloomberg, advanced Excel etc.)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Ability to analyze and interpret research and make investment recommendations;

  • Demonstrated passion for investing.

  • Experience working within a team environment, and able to collaborate well across the team;

  • Ability to work in a very fast paced environment;

  • Ability to cope with stress and multiple tasks;

  • Ability to make decisions quickly and accurately;

  • Employment location is in either Montreal or Toronto with preference in Montreal.

  • French and English communications skills are required for Montreal Candidates. Pursuant to a language needs assessment conducted by Scotiabank, the successful candidate will be required to be able to communicate in English in addition to French because they will be required to work closely with other groups from head office who operate primarily in English.
