This is a hybrid role with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.

Your role

Reporting to the Executive Director, Audio and Radio, you oversee the planning, programming, development and implementation of strategies focused on delivering innovative, compelling content to audiences across Canada. You will be responsible for developing and implementing the strategy to achieve Radio-Canada programming goals and strategic priorities.

Your challenge:

  • Provide a relevant vision and evolve programming.

  • Demonstrate managerial courage and help grow market shares with innovative strategies.

  • Play a key role in consolidating the programming lineup with the goal of reaching new audiences.

Key responsibilities:

  • Contribute to ICI PREMIÈRE’s vision and strategy in a competitive environment to create outstanding talk content while fostering an engaging work environment aligned with our values and Journalistic Standards and Practices.

  • Develop and evaluate the programming schedule consistent with the strategy.

  • Select and recommend program pilots to meet medium- and long-term schedule needs.

  • Manage day-to-day program development and production. Determine show mandates and approve the assignment and/or selection of teams consistent with goals and priorities.

  • Improve program content based on analysis of tuning levels with the Research team.

  • Manage human and budget resources in conjunction with Finance; set financial parameters and strategies for negotiations.

  • Plan workforce needs, evaluate human resources, approve new hires and terminations, and arrange training. Recommend amendments to collective agreements and production standards.

  • Identify marketing and communications priorities for ICI PREMIÈRE and work with the Communications team on strategy development.

  • Maintain the Corporation position’s in the radio industry, identify market trends and opportunities, and create content that will build new audiences.

  • Act in an ethical and professional manner at all times and manage crisis situations.

What you bring:

  • University degree or college diploma in journalism, business or a related field

  • At least 10 years’ experience in broadcasting or a related industry

  • At least 10 years’ management experience

  • Expertise in programming and media content strategies

  • Digital content strategy experience

  • Financial and budget management experience

  • Experience negotiating and managing contracts (vendors, performers, musicians, partners, etc.)

  • Experience managing cross-functional teams

  • Experience managing collective agreements and/or unionized staff

  • Extensive general knowledge and in-depth knowledge of media and societal trends; close awareness of current events, culture and societal changes; an established contact network in the media and creative industries

  • Knowledge of media trends and changes in media consumption, technology and competition in the industry

  • Knowledge of Radio-Canada programming, partners and resources

  • Creative leadership in developing innovative programming

  • Strong interpersonal communication and staff engagement skills

  • Significant experience in content development, project management and negotiation

  • Knowledge of media regulatory and governance structures, including rights management

  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills in English and French

  • Availability and flexibility
