Technology and Infrastructures (T&I) is the backbone and the future forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. We are the people that make stuff work. We make connections; between media content, systems, people and places. We are the space in between.

Software Architecture Platforms is a department within Architecture and Strategic Development that is part of Governance and Engineering, T&I.

This role is a hybrid work arrangement. Work schedule to be discussed with Hiring Manager according to the guidelines defined by the department.

Your role

The Software and Platform Architecture Team is looking for a creative, highly skilled and talented Lead Architect with deep Subject Matter Expertise in both Software Architecture and Software Engineering Practice for our downtown Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal Office location.

Reporting to the Director of Software and Platform Architecture, you will be responsible for establishing, leading and contributing to the Software Architecture and Engineering practice.

This role will join an existing team of architects who have a focus on best practices and delivering executable architecture for internal development teams. A large component of this role is related to R&D leading to tangible business outcomes by addressing efficiency through automation.

As part of the Architecture and Strategic Development Department you will leave your mark by facilitating and onboarding new Development Tools, Technologies and defining and implementing Platform Architectures.

How will you make an impact?

As the Lead Architect, you will:

  • Participate in the development and implementation of Cloud strategies that support technology advancement and cost strategies.

  • Participate in defining Cloud Governance and Architectural guidelines for our software and platforms.

  • Define the common software engineering technology stacks and toolchains.

  • Develop proof of concept prototypes to define high level and detailed architecture solutions and participate in their implementation.

  • Assess new technologies and approaches as assigned in a fast-paced agile delivery environment.

  • Guide and coach DevOps specialists, Application Solution Architects and Developers, including reviewing solution architecture for both on prem and cloud solutions.

  • Provide technical leadership to more junior developers for complex technical issues related to coding and design.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the architecture of our applications.

  • Incorporate “Secure by Design” concepts, practices and tools into the software development lifecycle.

  • Define, encourage and support the use of Infrastructure as Code practices.

What you bring to our team

  • Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related field)

  • A Minimum eight (8) years experience in application development & coding with progressively senior roles (eg. Senior Developer)

  • Minimum three (3) years experience in application architecture/design

  • Proven familiarity with software architecture design patterns and their application

  • Minimum two (3) years of experience with Cloud (Azure, AWS, Google) hosted deployments (automated and manual) supporting Continuous Integration and Delivery for Application Development

  • Strong experience provisioning, operating, and managing Azure, AWS environments (Certification is a major asset)

  • Strong Experience with programming or scripting languages (.Net, Python, Powershell, PowerCLI, Javascript, Terraform)

  • In-depth knowledge of operating systems and system administration, including a solid knowledge of Linux, UNIX and Windows systems and virtualization technologies (VMWare

  • In-depth knowledge of CI/CD (Jenkins, Ansible, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions etc)

  • In-depth knowledge of infrastructure configurations, network protocols, security and performance monitoring

  • Experience working in an Agile delivery environment (SCRUM certification is an asset)
