KPMG Legal Submission Writer, Canadian Immigration Practice in Montreal, Canada

The Legal Writer is responsible for drafting submission letters in support of applications for temporary work permits in Canada, temporary resident visas and applications for status and associated entry documents. This role requires exceptional command of the English and French languages, excellent time management and multitasking skills, attention to detail, a strong work ethic and the ability to work well in a team environment.

What you will do

Immigration:

  • Review all forms and documents collected for accuracy and consistency;

  • Draft legal arguments describing the applicant's eligibility to qualify for immigration status;

  • Prepare appropriate forms for submission of the appropriate application;

  • Create and/or modify supporting documents for review;

  • Make modifications/corrections as outlined by the responsible attorney; and

  • Complete and compile all before sending to client for validation.

Administration:

  • Prepare support or cover letters by fax or e-mail, as required;

  • Ensure that all correspondence and forms are recorded in the internal database and that all data is backed up;

  • Provide administrative support to the lawyer in charge, as required; and

  • Train and assist new employees in the role of legal drafter.

What you bring to the role

  • 1st, 2nd or 3rd cycle degree or in the process of obtaining one;

  • An interest in immigration law;

  • Time management skills are essential;

  • Ability to demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment;

  • Attention to detail and accuracy;

  • Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines;

  • Strong organizational and computer skills;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; and

  • Ability to locate and retrieve information efficiently, to use information effectively and to evaluate the quality of information.

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision;

  • Autonomous and highly motivated;

  • Ability to communicate responsibly and promote effective working relationships.
