We are seeking a Senior Architect in Data Engineering who is passionate about designing and implementing cutting-edge data solutions in the cloud. Key Responsibilities

• Spend at least 50% of your time writing high-quality, scalable code and contributing directly to the development of data pipelines, ETL processes, and cloud-based solutions.

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate data engineers, fostering growth and ensuring alignment with best practices.

• Design and build robust, secure, and scalable data architectures that align with both business needs and long-term technical goals.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to deeply understand business operations, data requirements, and pain points, ensuring data solutions support key business outcomes.

• Champion the use of proven engineering best practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, and version control, to maintain high-quality standards.

• Continuously evaluate and optimize data pipelines for performance, cost-efficiency, and scalability in cloud environments.

• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in cloud platforms, big data tools, and data engineering practices, ensuring that solutions leverage cutting-edge technologies.

• Work closely with other engineering teams, data scientists, and product managers to deliver integrated and comprehensive data solutions.

• Ensure data governance and compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory standards across all data platforms and solutions.

• Identify opportunities to innovate and improve existing processes, systems, and tools to enhance data quality, speed, and reliability

Critical Qualifications

• The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, or advanced degree in Computer Science or closely related subject.

• 7+ years experience in software development and architecture.

• 2+ years developing data engineering components e.g. Kafka, DataFlow, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, Sqoop, Hive etc.

• 4+ years understanding of traditional ETL tools & Data Warehousing architecture.

• 2+ years coding in Scala / Spark, Spark Streaming / Java

• Solution Architect and/or Data Engineer Cloud Certifications (GCP Preferred)

• Solid knowledge of cloud-based and micro-services architecture

• Expert in SQL/NoSQL or other query languages

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or GitLab CI/CD)

• Knowledgeable in data pipeline monitoring, orchestration and logging

• Mapping current and future business requirements to the overall data model

• Designing datasets, and table architecture to ensure proper data governance

• Strong understanding of Batch vs Streaming (e.g., windowing, late arriving data) transformations

• Minimizing costs per required business need for data processing and storage

• Experience in software and system testing and operations support

• Strong leadership and team-building skills, and must be able to collaborate effectively with a group of high performing individuals.

• Demonstrated leadership ability to back decisions with research and the “why,” and articulate several options, the pros and cons for each, and a recommendation.

• Strong inter-personal and communication skills including written, verbal, and technology illustrations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix and scripting skills.

  • Hands on experience with setting up containerized environments (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker)

  • Experience with handling HSPII datasets familiarity with privacy regulations

  • Experience with predictive analytics techniques (e.g. predictive modeling, statistical programming, machine learning, data mining, data visualization).

  • Practical knowledge with DevOps tools and programming/scripting languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, Go, Ansible, Git.

  • Strong experience with Agile / Scrum and DevOps principles, practices and tools

Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
