Summary:

Responsible for regulatory compliance oversight for the qualified and nonqualified plans of UnitedHealth Group and their affiliated entities (the “Plans”), which includes compliance testing, required plan notices, IRS/DOL reporting and research of benefits laws. Responsible for program compliance with company policies and controls, and with the laws, regulations and rules issued or enforced by state, federal and foreign regulatory authorities on the subject of program administration, reporting, disclosures and filing requirements. The Compliance Consultant must have the ability to research, analyze and explain benefits laws and regulations to assist in ensuring that UnitedHealth Group’s Plans maintain compliance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation and submission of IRS/DOL filings, including Form 5500 and Form 5330 filings

  • Assist with the preparation, review, and distribution of required plan notices, including safe harbor notices, fee disclosures, and summary annual reports

  • Assist with the preparation, review and distribution of Summary Plan Descriptions and Summary of Material Modifications

  • Oversee non-discrimination testing activities

  • Support communications processes and develop or review content to ensure alignment with retirement plans

  • Maintain awareness and understanding of new and existing laws, regulations and guidance applicable to the Plans, including ERISA

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and controls, and with the laws, regulations and rules issued or enforced by state and Federal regulatory authorities on the subject of plan administration, reporting, disclosure and filing requirements

  • Ensure plan documents and materials are timely and accurately amended

  • Assist with research, analysis and resolution of non-standard qualified and nonqualified plan issues. Escalate issues to legal and management team as needed to assure prompt and accurate resolution

  • Act as a liaison between the retirement team and internal legal team

  • Maintain a compliance calendar tracking completion of required activities for each of the qualified plans

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of employee benefits compliance and/or 401(k) plan experience in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment

  • Solid working knowledge of ERISA and 401(k) rules and other benefit and regulatory requirements

  • Experience in the following areas: research and analysis of qualified and nonqualified plan laws. and regulations, drafting and reviewing Summary Plan Descriptions, Form 5500 filing and nondiscrimination testing support

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines
