Senior Marketing Communications Manager

We are seeking aSenior Marketing Communications Managerwho will help tell that story and serve our worldwide brand from our offices in Minneapolis. In this position you will take a lead role in Dorsey’s communications and branding initiatives, including our public relations function, digital presence, and external and internal communications. You will report to the Firm’s Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer and work closely with Firm management, practice groups, industry groups, individual lawyers, and our entire Marketing & Business Development team.

Here are Some of the Primary Responsibilities:

Communications & Branding:

  • Focus on the Firm’s messaging strategies and develop and execute on strategic plans to promote our brand through communications; understand, support and further develop the Firm’s brand and its brand guidelines.

  • Develop, write and edit communications content, press releases, advertising copy, video content, and other internal and external messaging.

  • Oversee and facilitate updates to Firm website; oversee and facilitate the creation and distribution of seminar/event invitations and thought leadership pieces including legal updates and newsletters.

  • Oversee staff charged with the client relationship management (CRM) databases and related databases that are maintained for client and prospect contact and communication.

  • Lead development of strategies, marketing campaigns, and programs designed to elevate the profile and brand recognition of the Firm, with a strong focus on offices outside of Minneapolis.

Public Relations, Media Relations & Advertising:

  • Strategize and execute on Firm public relations and media relations consistent with the Firm’s brand and business goals in areas including new lawyers, business growth, market expansion, client successes, human interest and others.

  • Lead or co-lead efforts relating to crisis communications.

  • Write, edit, and distribute Firm press releases.

  • Develop and maintain relations with media and serve as a Firm media contact.

  • Oversee the Firm’s relationships with public relations agency, web provider, printing, graphic design and other outside vendors to the marketing communications function.

  • Manage media inquiries and interview requests; clear conflicts as necessary.

  • Coach and assist Firm lawyers and staff regarding media appearances.

  • Assist attorneys with placement of articles in newspapers, journals, business and trade publications.

  • Create and place Firm advertising and other promotional material.

  • Manage team members overseeing the Firm’s social media channels and help enhance and implement communications strategy.

Other Management Roles:

  • Manage and mentor junior and mid-level marketing communications and graphics staff members and ensure they are providing exceptional quality service to the Firm and its clients.

  • Manage marketing communications budget.

  • May be requested to perform other duties not mentioned above.

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, English, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.

  • At least 8 years’ experience in marketing communications roles, preferably in a law firm or in an agency directly working with law firms or other professional services firms.

  • Ability to work well and communicate with Firm management and lawyers at all levels.

  • Superb written communication skills with experience writing and editing marketing materials with close attention to detail.

  • Experience with web design and maintenance and graphic design.

  • Managerial and leadership experience, including the ability to develop and motivate staff, prioritize their work-loads and monitor productivity; ability to work under intense deadlines.

  • Highly developed interpersonal, organizational and project management skills.

  • Customer-service focus.
