Ameriprise Financial Leave of Absence Specialist in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Ameriprise Financial has a great new opportunity for a Leave of Absence (LOA) Specialist to join our growing team! As a LOA Specialist, you will play an integral in counseling employees and leaders on the LOA process, leave options, eligibility, and pay continuation. You will also provide leave and accommodation case management through resolution with appropriate employee and leader follow-up as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and administer leaves of absence and accommodation requests arising under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the company’s short-term disability plan, maternity and parental leave and all other leave programs.

  • Review and evaluate requests for accommodations using the interactive process to ensure best practices are implemented in compliance with ADA.

  • Maintain accurate leave of absence records by accurately coding leave types and status within Workday; coordinate paid-time off and paid leaves with accurate absence coding in Workday to ensure timely and accurate employee pay.

  • Research and resolve pay discrepancies for employees on leave of absence or upon return to work; collaborate with payroll for any pay corrections requiring off-cycle/on-demand checks.

  • Process direct benefits billing to ensure uninterrupted benefit coverage for employees on unpaid leave of absence.

  • Manage the return-to-work process by engaging with leaders to assess work restrictions and ensure the employee is accurately returned to active status in Workday.

  • Maintain complete and accurate records of leave and accommodation requests within case management in accordance with specified legal requirements and documentation best practice.

  • Conduct research and apply subject matter expertise and judgement to resolve escalated cases within specified service level agreements while adhering to company policy and compliant with federal, state, and local leave laws.

  • Liaise with third party vendor regarding employee eligibility and medical certification approval.

  • Research and resolve data and processing errors with third-party vendor as required to resolve issues.

  • Solve problems through active listening, trouble shooting and critical thinking.

  • Identify points of confusion or lack of knowledge with leave of absence or accommodations; recommend enhancements within our self-service applications, employee/leader knowledge articles or processes and procedures to improve employee and leader experience and overall satisfaction.

  • Promote and educate on self-service options when appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • 1-3+ years working in an HR services organization, preferably in leave of absence and accommodation administration

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field of study or equivalent years of work experience

  • Basic understanding of HR terminology within supported region (US, EMEA, APAC)

  • Proficiency with MS Office suite of software (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel)

  • Organized with strong attention to detail

  • Ability to multi-task and demonstrate strong follow through

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in HR service/contact center supporting HR, payroll and/or benefits

  • Experience with Workday time and attendance or comparable HCM software

  • Experience with HR case management/CRM software

  • Familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

  • Ability to explore factors, diagnosis issues and determine and implement best outcome solutions
