Job Description

The Head of Human Resources Advisory Services (HRAS) is a key member of our HR Executive Leadership Team, reporting to our Chief Human Resources Officer and will be responsible for further evolving and implementing our U.S. Bank’s HR advisory (people leaders’ and employee relations) strategies, programs, and capabilities. This leader will be responsible for enabling our overall talent strategy by leading our HR team that focuses on empowering our people leaders with knowledge and capabilities, while advising and supporting our employees through their day-to-day journey, ensuring their voice is heard. They will be focused on supporting all people leaders and employees by activating our U.S. Bank culture and Core Values through policies and procedures’ interpretation, performance management, and administration of investigative support.

This leader will work closely with our Heads of HR, who are aligned to our Business Lines and Functions, providing support and partnership in enabling our workforce, while also providing insights and trends on employee relations’ matters while collectively building high-impact solutions. In addition, this leader will work cross-functionally to improve people processes, people leader capabilities, and build a roadmap for employee relations programs and capabilities. This leader will be responsible for identifying broad labor trends across U.S. Bank, and work with our Human Resources Centers of Excellence (COEs), such as Global Enterprise Recruiting, Total Rewards, Talent & Culture Enablement, and Learning & Development, as well as our Global HR Services and HR Strategy and Operations teams, to create solutions that positively improve the employee experience, while designing and implementing processes that empower our people leaders.

The incumbent will need to understand the overarching human capital strategy of the organization and have the necessary knowledge and experience to develop strategies and solutions focused on empowering and enabling our workforce to deliver against our business priorities. The role requires a visionary leader who is fully competent in all areas of Human Resources. However, this leader must be passionate about empowering and enabling our people leaders and broader employee base, while consistently demonstrating a continuous improvement mindset and unwavering strive for excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creates, develops, and drives strategies, processes, and solutions focused on leading through employee relations’ issues, both proactively and as they occur within the organization, ensuring appropriate levels of governance and due diligence to mitigate risk and maximizing workforce performance.

  • Leverage and utilize data and analytics to identify emerging trends at both macro and micro levels, driving decisions and actions that are anchored on facts. Provide a complete picture of overall employee relations’ matters to human resources and business leaders that supports respective business metrics and objectives, and develop and implement programs, initiatives, and solutions around such matters.

  • Collaborate with key leaders and stakeholders across the organization (Other HR functions, Legal, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Ethics, Fraud Investigations, etc.) with a continuous improvement mindset, sharing opportunities to better support the employee experience, including professional development, talent management, inclusive practices, etc.

  • Ensure the efficient and effective delivery of employee relations services and programs by developing success criteria for operational practices around response and resolution of provided support and service.

  • Investigate elevated cases and advise on recommendations and actions, effectively addressing difficult situations with executive savvy. Take decisive and well-rounded action in high-pressure situations, consulting with key stakeholders where appropriate.

  • Refine and maintain employee relations case management system, including analyzing employee relations data and provide necessary reporting. Work closely with key partners and key stakeholders to identify broader organizational trends, strengths, and opportunities.

  • Working closely with key partners and stakeholders, prepare necessary documents, reports, and recommendations for legal, executive and Board review.

  • Support all labor relations’ and union matters, working closely with all HR functions and broader business leadership teams to deliver against all requirements.

  • Refine all investigative capabilities for the organization, and build necessary tools, processes and skills focused on improving people leadership capabilities.

  • Build and develop continuous learning opportunities for the HRAS team members in alignment with the overarching talent development strategies for the HR organization.

  • Coach and develop talent across entire HR organization, acting as a mentor, coach, and talent champion for the function.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor or graduate degree in business, human resources, law, or related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • Fifteen plus years of Human Resources (HR), employee relations, business, or managerial experience, including 5+ years leadership experience.

  • Experience in HR leadership in financial services or highly regulated industry.

  • Experience in labor relations’ matters, and in working with unions preferred.

  • Business and HR leader with progressive experience working at both a strategic and executional level, consulting with executive level leaders, and operating in a matrix-based environment.

  • Proven history of leading and/or influencing teams through transformational change.

  • Experience analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, recognize trends and recommend action.

  • Results orientated, with the ability to recognize needs, solve problems, anticipate issues, and develop employee centric solutions using strong analytical, business knowledge, and financial acumen.

  • Strategic thought leader that proactively responds to changing business needs and objectives, while considering HR implications of business or people related decisions and actions.

  • Experience in leading largescale programs and projects from discovery, design, and governance to delivery.

  • Outstanding interpersonal, influence-management, and communication skills, particularly in building relationships with business leaders and presenting to senior leaders.

  • Proven ability to make sense out of complex situations, demonstrating intellectual curiosity, and driving outcomes with appropriate levels of governance and controls.

  • Experience in developing strategies and providing work direction and guidance to a broader team or organization. Is able to drive results through own leadership and action, while leading a high performing organization.
