Ameriprise Financial Executive Vice President - Wealth Management Solutions in Minneapolis, Minnesota

We are seeking an Executive Vice President to lead the strategic direction and management of the AWM Product and Solutions Strategy. Includes responsibility for overall P&L management for all (non-Bank) product categories and wealth solutions offered (e.g., advisory, alternative investments, equities, options, fixed income, UITs, mutual funds, IRA, 401k/403b offerings, 3rd party I&A, brokerage, wealth consulting service, AWM performance reporting, Investment Research and Due Diligence, etc.). Includes oversight of product development and ongoing management, pricing, marketing/communication, training, and sales consulting functions. Responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and laws. Oversight and influence of all indirect partner functions (finance, client service, operations, legal/compliance, HR, risk, etc.) to ensure they are delivering on the integrated broker-dealer strategy of driving sales results and improving advisor/client satisfaction.

This role will participate as a member of the AWM Products & Service Delivery Executive Leadership Team, reporting into the President - Advice & Wealth Management, Products & Service Delivery.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead the Wealth Management Solutions team and develop and/or enhance the Ameriprise product/solution offering for Ameriprise Financial Advisors and Clients. Proactively identify, develop, price, manage and implement innovative product solutions for Ameriprise that reflect industry best practices and industry trends to meet evolving Advisor and Client needs and expectations.

  • Assess the current product and solution operating model and roadmap, determine any gaps, and make recommendations for improvement to ensure unit is meeting the demands of the business consistently focused on advisor and client needs. This includes products/offerings including, but not limited to:

  • Advisory Platform, Alternative Investments, Equities, Options, Fixed Income and UITs

  • Mutual Funds, Retirement Products including IRA, 401k and 403b, 3rd party Insurance & Annuities, Brokerage

  • Wealth Consulting Service

  • AWM Performance Reporting

  • AWM Investment Research

  • Product Sales Consulting, Marketing, Communications and Training

  • Clearly communicate the strategic direction to the business unit as well as key stakeholders and the field.

  • Proactively assess and enhance business unit metrics and analytics to ensure effectiveness and efficiency while also partnering with the leadership team on identifying and reviewing other critical metrics.

  • Responsible for the overall P&L management.

  • Oversight, collaboration and influence of all indirect partner functions (finance, technology, client service, operations, legal/compliance, human resources, risk, etc.) to ensure strong delivery on the Ameriprise integrated broker-dealer strategy to drive strong results and advisor/client satisfaction.

  • Participate in various leadership initiatives that result in achievement of broader company strategies related to talent development, including building strong succession.

  • Represent the company externally to build our brand and broaden pathways of opportunity into our company to ensure a robust and growing diverse talent pool both within corporate and experienced advisor recruits.

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and laws. Ensure effective controls are in place to proactively manage risk and remain in compliance with company policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; masters preferred.

  • Minimum of fifteen years of progressive executive management experience leading wealth management solutions including a diverse set of solutions (advisory, retirement, investment products, etc.) in a wealth management firm; ideally similar complexity and growth orientation.

  • Active Series 7& 24 required, along with deep appreciation of licensing needs and business application.

  • Prior experience working with the executive level of a mid to large size firm; strong track record of successfully presenting to other executives, CEOs, Board of Directors, etc.

  • Experience presenting the Broker/Dealer externally via associations, conferences, etc., as well as demonstrated successful experience working with applicable regulators (FINRA, SEC, etc.)

  • Experience in development of or enhancement of critical growth strategies across most product lines; ability to lead across the enterprise to align strategies and lead team to execute in a complex matrixed organization.

  • Demonstrated organizational and financial leadership of product and solutions, including leadership responsibility for a team of professionals responsible for product development and management, marketing/communication, training, sales consulting, investment research, etc.

  • Excellent financial acumen across all areas of responsibility; ability to connect dots and explain in simple ways what is currently happening and predict future trends.

  • Excellent knowledge of regulatory and compliance environment and application to responsibilities. Ability to form and maintain strong working partnership with legal, compliance and risk groups to go deep on all regulatory requests and responses.

  • Demonstrated success in the integration of complex strategies across multiple businesses areas, staff functions, field leadership and advisors in all platforms.

  • History of sponsoring and/or leading complex, matrixed cross organization projects and initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • This position will have a significant impact on the firm’s strategic positioning from a product and solution perspective with advisors and clients.

  • The ideal candidate will lead by example, having a strong technical background and deep subject matter experience which will help shape the future of client offerings and the Ameriprise Advisor and Client Experience.

  • A strong leader who leads with vision and inspiration who has an accomplished track record of leading complex and strategic product initiatives across multiple products is critical.

  • A heavy emphasis will be placed on the ability to go deep at Ameriprise through internal relationship building, self-study and absorption and retention of Ameriprise history.

  • This person should understand the benefits of working within a large organization and servicing advisors and clients, along with the benefits of strong relationships with field leadership and other internal clients.

  • This includes having the ability to influence in a matrixed environment and at all levels.

  • This role will be expected to contribute as a member of the Executive AWM P&SD Leadership Team and bring an informed point of view to strategic discussions at that level.

  • The ultimate goal is to significantly establish credibility while strategically building and positioning the organization for continued growth.

  • It will be important that this individual build and develop talent and manage performance.

  • A proven track record of effective leadership of managing and leading through change.

  • There is a strong emphasis on the ability to maximize relationships, build trust, and communicate effectively across business units, staff groups, and geographic locations.

  • The preferred candidate is expected to think strategically, creatively, and drive innovation with a focus on continuous improvement.

  • A background of re-engineering success and a global operational mindset is key.

  • Additional leadership expectations include demonstrating accountability with a focus on client needs and creating value for the shareholder.
