As the Executive Assistant for the Government Relations and Communications divisions of the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), you will provide direct administrative and program support work for the Office of Government Relations and the Director of Communications. Duties will include:
Provide administrative and confidential assistance to the Office of Government Relations and the Director of Communications.
Work in collaboration with and under the direction of the Legislative Policy Manager to remain knowledgeable about the Legislature and other materials pertinent to the Office of Government Relations operations so that proper information can be relayed and confidentiality of materials be maintained.
Maintain office functions so that service is provided to the Government Relations Division and the Director of Communications.
Maintain records of expense reports, in-state and out-of-state travel, audit reports, state legislative records, State Register printing requests, special expense reports, budgets, legislative bills related to education, bill reviews, and mandated and non-mandated reports requested through Minnesota Statutes or Laws.
Serve as the Government Relations content manager and GovDelivery administrator.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience providing high level administrative support
Technical proficiency with word processing, presentation and spreadsheet programs (ie. Microsoft Office)
Strong grammar, editing, and writing skills
Effective customer service skills and ability to work with persons of diverse backgrounds
Experience managing daily office operations, organizing multiple priorities and effectively carrying out complex oral and written instruction with minimum supervision
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify and address problems with confidentiality, diplomacy and integrity
Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in an executive assistant role.
Experience supporting a communications or government relations/legislative team.
Experience working in an education setting.
Experience working at a state agency or other governmental entity.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment operating under short timelines.
