Job Description

We are seeking an experienced tax professional that will play a key role in U.S. Bank’s tax organization. The Director of Tax Reporting and Compliance will manage a wide range of tax matters including tax provision, monitoring legislation, research, compliance, and audit defense. The position will partner across the corporate tax function and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure compliance, minimize risk, and support business line goals and objectives.

Responsibility detail:

  • Accountable for the global consolidated tax provision, quarterly filings, and preparation and review of related financial statement disclosures; manage communications with internal and external auditors

  • Manage the co-source vendor relationship and partner with the tax operations team to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of federal and state corporate income tax returns; ensure proper technical review

  • Produce forecasts of the effective tax rate and variance analysis to support internal reporting and planning

  • Responsible for the tax risk management framework and controls for tax reporting and compliance

  • Work closely with the EVP Corporate Tax Director, SVP Tax Planning, and cross-functional teams to support business strategies, including mergers and acquisitions, and analyze the income tax accounting impact

  • Collaborate with the tax planning and business line support teams to identify and implement reporting and compliance requirements related to Pillar 2 directives, in consultation with external advisers as necessary

  • Identify and implement improvements to streamline and automate tax provision processes including evaluating and implementing tax technology tools

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and proactively model changes impacting U.S. Bank

  • Preparation and review of responses to IRS audits, inquiries, and tax notices; Provide technical assistance with controversy issues associated with the company’s tax positions

  • Provide additional support, as needed, for tax reporting and compliance initiatives

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting; CPA and/or MBT preferred

  • 12+ years of relevant experience in corporate tax with an in-depth knowledge of US GAAP reporting and compliance requirements

  • ASC 740 proficiency

  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills.

  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate across the various groups within the business organization including legal, accounting, treasury, finance, operations, etc.

  • General understanding of international tax laws and regulations.

  • Experience working with and managing relations with external advisors.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $165,325.00 - $194,500.00 - $213,950.00
