This position provides leadership to the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Care Division (MN Veterans Homes) regarding quality of care and clinical oversight. This position will oversee the nursing specialists and provide consultation support to all MN Veterans Homes including establishing a systematic approach for program implementation and evaluation, setting division clinical priorities, assisting in policy and procedure oversight, providing education to clinical team members, coordinating Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) efforts, mentoring of clinical leaders in positive and effective leadership strategies, monitoring progress and evaluating the homes clinical services. This position serves as a nursing leader to all MN Veterans Homes which are licensed skilled nursing facilities or boarding care home with the MN Department of Health and recognized State Veterans Homes with the Federal Veterans Administration (VA).

Support will be accomplished through a variety of virtual and in person interactions – requiring travel to all MN Veterans Homes as needed to provide support and mentorship as outlined above.

The position will oversee and manage the quality and clinical team at Central Office, to include nurse specialists, and make recommendations to the Healthcare Senior Leadership Team regarding clinical care practices and delivery of care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensed in Minnesota as a Registered Nurse in good standing

  • Qualified applicants must also possess the following:

*Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing may substitute for one (1) year of clinical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the special clinical care needs of the Veterans community such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Polytrauma, Spinal Cord Injury, or Mental Health such as Suicide Prevention, or End of Life Needs specifically related to a service era.

  • Experience delivering health care education to a variety of health care professionals

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Nursing, Gerontology, or Health Care Management

  • Accredited Body Certification in Gerontology, Hospice and Palliative Care, Quality Improvement, Education, Nurse Executive or other related nursing/clinical field unique to senior healthcare services

  • Participation in quality improvement

This position requires successful completion of the following:
