The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), Equity Diversity & Inclusion Center is looking for an Education Consultant 3 - Arts and Equity Curriculum and Instruction Specialist to join this team. As an Education Consultant 3 - Arts and Equity Curriculum and Instruction Specialist, you will work with MDE staff and sub-grantees to implement the Federal Culturally Responsive Arts Education (CRAE) Grant. This grant project will support the development and implementation of culturally responsive and anti-racist arts curriculum, instruction, polices, and practices in districts and schools in order to expand arts education equity in participating districts and schools as well as sustain and expand culturally responsive and anti-racist arts education. This position will focus on building and supporting the knowledge, skills, abilities of districts, school, and teacher leaders to identify, interrupt and transform barriers to equity in art education., and to support and provide culturally responsive and anti-racist arts curriculum, instruction, polices, and practices. This will be done through Cohort Learning Communities, regular and ongoing professional development, coaching, support to pilot local equity-focused work, and job-embedded training and supports. Your work will include:

  • Developing and maintaining training support systems to include implementing and evaluating professional development, tools, and technical and consultative assistance to local CRAE project participants and additional professional development cohorts and professional development offerings;

  • Building CRAE Project participants' competency, through coaching and other means, around assessing policies, practices, curriculum and instruction through an equity lens, and developing and implementing local pilot projects to address needs identified in these areas;

  • Building communications processes, planning activities, and fiscal agreements to further the mission and goals of the CRAE Grant, including supporting an external evaluation, documentation and dissemination of project impacts and resources, and reporting.

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires five (5) years of professional experience implementing education programming in the fields of arts (visual or performing) and/or equity;

A Master’s degree may substitute for 18 months of experience; a Bachelor’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with both the arts and equity in education

  • Experience with culturally responsive education

  • Experience with anti-racist education

  • K-12 teaching experience

  • Experience developing and leading professional development in the arts and/or equity

  • Experience implementing grant funded programs
