The Minnesota Board of Nursing exists to protect the public’s health and safety through regulation of nursing, education, licensure and practice. The board conducts business through five major service areas: credentialing, education, discipline/complaint resolution, nursing practice and data.

This position supports public health and safety by providing legal-related support to the Board of Nursing in complaint processing. The incumbent, in coordination with the Nursing Practice Specialist, reviews and analyzes data and legal issues of complaint cases. They draft legal documents for review by the Attorney General's Office including Notices of Conference, Orders of Automatic Suspension, Stipulation and Consent Orders, Affidavits, and others. The responsibility requires knowledge of the judicial system and administrative law process, an understanding of professional licensure regulation, complaint documentation, investigative data, and nursing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience that emphasizes collecting and organizing evidence, researching and analyzing documents for legal factual application, and producing drafts of legal documents.

  • Moderate understanding of medical terminology sufficient to provide a thorough analysis of cases.

  • Understanding of legal terminology sufficient to draft legally sufficient documents that meet the Board's regulatory needs.

  • Experience managing multiple cases or projects which includes prioritizing responsibilities and completing assignments in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).

*Bachelor's degree in the areas of legal studies, public administration, or a related field may substitute for one year of experience. Associate may substitute for six (6) months of experience as described.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with and knowledge of the rules, policies, procedures and regulations related to nursing professions.

  • Knowledge of Administrative law process.

  • Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act.
