National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineer for our LNG/CNG/RNG Planning and Design department in Melville, NY.

Job Purpose

Project Engineering & Design is responsible for the design of large-scale projects allowing for the safe (compressors, pumps, vaporizers, truck stations, etc.), facility related systems (control buildings, fire water, high expansion foam and emergency shut-down systems, etc.), and other MISC work.

Key Accountabilities

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Contribute to the gas engineering and design for New York LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), and RNG (Renewable Natural Gas) facility projects.

  • Incorporate applicable Standards, Procedures, and State/Federal statutory requirements into Gas systems designs including all safety, health and environmental standards and procedures

  • Review and approve engineering design documents and specifications to ensure that deliverables meet engineering best practices and comply with National Grid standards and policies for LNG, CNG, and RNG projects.

  • Lead the development of project bid specifications and contract drawings to assist in the procurement and onboarding of third-party design engineering firms and construction contractors.

  • Incorporate corporate process safety procedures into the project work flow as required.

  • Develop and gain approval of project scope and construction requirements.

  • Provide technical engineering support for the project during the construction phase and perform field visits to confirm installation/construction conforms with design.

  • Coordinate and work with project team to review RFI’s.

  • Manage technical resources, guide interdisciplinary teams, and participate in the development of technical resources required to execute projects.

  • Participate in Storm restoration activities or other system emergencies (gas and electric) as called upon.

Qualifications

  • ABET accredited Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering discipline required

  • PE or FE preferred

  • 6 to 10 years of relevant engineering experience

  • Technical knowledge of natural gas system design and operations including natural gas industry codes and regulations, engineering, and environmental codes and standards preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects within time constraints

  • Demonstrated ability to work with more senior engineers to develop project scopes to ensure a complete, high quality and safe project outcome

  • Demonstrated high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with a diverse group of company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive collaborative manner required

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally required

  • Valid driver’s license required

$141k - $166k a year
