Radio-Canada Gaspésie/Îles-de-la-Madeleine is looking for a host for its daily morning show Bon pied, bonne heure.

In this role, you are a key player in an energetic team of professionals. You must be knowledgeable about the large region comprising the eastern Lower St. Lawrence, Gaspé and the Magdalen Islands; have a creative mind; and be an excellent team player. Although you will be working in a fast-paced environment, you must stay relaxed, listen to others and retain a positive attitude. The ability to go live and “off script” at a moment’s notice is highly valued.

Reporting to the show producers and the Senior Manager, Content and Production, for Radio-Canada Gaspésie/Îles-de-la-Madeleine, you will play a leadership role in preparing and presenting the show while building strong connections with audiences both on air and on social media. You will contribute substantially to the planning, design and organization of the program on a day-to-day basis, proposing content ideas and conducting interviews on or off air; you will also interact with program participants.

You must live and promote the values of an inclusive and respectful work culture. As one of the team leaders, you demonstrate a positive attitude and are always looking for creative solutions to challenges.

Work is governed by CBC/Radio-Canada programming and/or journalistic policies and standards, but there is a requirement for creativity, initiative and independent judgment.

This role is based out of the Matane station.

Key tasks:

  • Help plan, design and organize the program or program segments.

  • Take program content to air.

  • Interact extemporaneously with program participants such as guests, reporters, experts and members of the audience.

  • Conduct prepared or improvised interviews on a wide variety of current events.

  • Promote content on our platforms and engage with the audience.

  • Follow current events and maintain your expertise.

  • Participate in public relations or community outreach activities to promote programs and/or the Corporation.

  • Represent the Corporation or program in a number of forums.

As required, perform the following tasks:

  • Pitch ideas, suggest and line up interviewees, prepare background notes and questions, conduct on- or off-air interviews, and provide narration and linking continuity between program segments.

  • Present segments or content on other TV/radio programs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

  • Five (5) years’ on-air experience or equivalent

Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of issues and events particular to eastern Quebec

  • In-depth knowledge of regional, national and international affairs

  • Wide range of genuine interests, knowledge and insight, reflecting curiosity in many current affairs topics, and an ability to make them relevant to existing and new audiences

  • Solid knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices

  • Engaging, curious, spontaneous and authentic on-air personality

  • Widely read, knowledgeable and nuanced thinker

  • Exemplary journalistic skills, including interviewing, storytelling and critical thinking

  • Openness to diverse perspectives and ideas, and differing points of view

  • Excellent command of spoken and written French

  • Excellent soft skills and conscious, positive leadership

  • Ability to function independently and in a team setting while collaborating with other CBC/Radio-Canada units

  • Ability to work effectively under deadline pressure

  • Genuine passion for public outreach and willingness to be an enthusiastic ambassador of public broadcasting and the program

  • Knowledge of and creative ideas around the use of social media and digital platforms to connect with and grow audiences a definite asset

  • Technical skills, including field recording and audio editing, a definite asset
