The Impact You’ll Make in this RoleProvides sourcing advice and consults with leadership team to set short-term strategic direction and operating plans for transportation. Responsible for cost reduction, cash improvement opportunities, supply risk management, and sourcing initiatives and tools. May have responsibility for management of accounts payable ledger or purchase order transaction management. May negotiate highly complex sourcing contracts. Leads team(s) to manage external suppliers to deliver improved benefits to 3M. Determines directions and priorities and assigns resources with full accountability for results of the assigned functional area.

  • Consults with leadership team to set short-term strategic direction and operating plans for assigned area of responsibility and defines guidelines/methods. Decisions are typically limited by business or functional area objectives/guidelines. Initiates and approves projects to continuously improve efficiency and competitiveness.

  • Problem solving requires hypothetical thinking to determine best solutions for complex problems. Utilizes resources across work areas and departments to create solutions. Most complex problem solving may require in-depth interpretation and analysis for significantly different situations.

  • Decisions impact one area of the organization and occasionally may impact multiple areas

  • Has responsibility for establishing and enforcing multiple concepts relative to the logistics function. Working tasks might include:

  • Implements sourcing plans for USAC regional transportation

  • Coaches and explains sourcing data and methodologies to functional leaders and suppliers, in order to ensure their understanding and buy-in

  • Negotiates major sourcing contracts and builds relationships with key suppliers.

  • Develops systems to support sourcing information needs.

  • Drives/ensures compliance of corporate sourcing policies and procedures.

  • Ensures local issues are incorporated into corporate sourcing plans, taking local goals and investments into consideration.

  • Manages major claims against suppliers.

  • Drives implementation of cost-saving programs and/or opportunities.

  • Develops ongoing process for supply risk mitigation.

  • Incumbent typically communicates with managers, functional leaders, area/business leaders, department heads, and direct subordinates. May interact with external clients.

  • Shares vision and demonstrates company values.

  • Negotiates and counsels on an expert level, justifies controversial positions and demonstrates intermediate persuasion skills.

  • Actively participates in relevant corporate programs/initiatives, complies with professional and quality standards, complies with corporate policies and procedures, and acts in a manner consistent with 3M’s values and ethical standards.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

  • Seven (7) years of combined transportation and/or logistics sourcing experience in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or management from an accredited institution

  • Ten (10) years of Sourcing in a private, public, government or military environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communications.

  • Strong program management and problem-solving skills and collaboration across teams, functions and organization.

Work location:

  • Hybrid Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but require travel to Maplewood at least 2-4 days per week)

Travel: May include up to 20% domestic/international travel

Relocation Assistance: Is not authorized

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $160,284 - $195,903, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
