Product Development Engineer

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Product Development Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Leveraging expertise to develop and lead new product development, providing new growth opportunities in addition to supporting existing 3M products and businesses

• Utilizing technical knowledge to identify, initiate, and plan research and development projects to improve abrasive materials or abrasive products of high priority to the organization.

• Building product concepts to demonstrate feasibility and scale-up into manufacturing

• Working collaboratively, engaging and your internal and external network of resources to advance technical platforms

• Communicating your results with your teams to share, collaborate and drive innovation

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited university.

• Five (5) years of combined experience in research & development (including undergraduate research, M.S. and Ph.D., internship research or development, etc.) in a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• PhD Technical expertise in resin chemistries and composite systems, polymers, inorganic chemistries and analytical characterization techniques of polymers/composites including rheology

• Experience in technology or product development including phase-gate commercialization processes

• Experience in IP generation and portfolio management

• Ability to self-initiate, develop, direct, and complete projects with significant impact to 3M.

• Experience with creating and executing DOEs (design of experiments) and using data science and analytic techniques in experimentation.

• Skills include excellent written and verbal communication, networking, interpersonal and leadership skills

Work location: Choose 1:

• Hybrid Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but require travel to Maplewood, MN at least 3 days per week)

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic and international travel

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $119,076 - $145,537, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
