This position exists to receive samples of construction, soils borings, and/or maintenance materials, perform tests on specific samples as needed in Aggregates, Soils and Cement Labs, prepare test reports, and maintain equipment/work area.

Job Duties: Examples of work for this specific vacancy include but are not limited to:

  • Receive, examine, and prepare samples for testing so that samples are properly identified and ready for testing.

  • Perform materials tests, predominately in the Soils and Cement Labs (however material test area can be changed as necessary for business reasons), in accordance with established procedures to insure accurate results.

  • Record the test results and perform routine computations to insure complete and accurate records are maintained.

  • Perform more difficult, non-routine tests for special studies and investigations so that MnDOT’s construction, maintenance, design, and research efforts are supported.

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and cleaning of equipment and work area so that an orderly, safe, and clean work area is maintained. Calibrate testing equipment in accordance with accreditation.

  • Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the supervisor to insure effective laboratory operations.

  • Teach MnDOT Aggregate Production Classes.

Minimum Qualifications

The level of experience to perform this job at the TGS level can be achieved with:

  • Two (2) years of experience performing materials testing.

OR

  • One (1) year of experience performing materials testing or related activities and one year in construction inspection.

Note: A Two year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four year degrees: Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).

AND

  • Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

  • MnDOT Aggregate Production Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Materials Testing Experience with documented satisfactory performance.

  • Concrete Plant1, Bit Plant 1, Grading and Base 1 Certifications.
