This position provides overall project management direction from inception to completion of highway improvement projects; utilizes project management processes to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to scope; engages public agencies and the general public to obtain input and develop informed consent; provides overall direction and leadership to technical project teams; and develops projects to be consistent with MnDOT strategy, commitments and goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Engineer Senior:

  • Licensure as a professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)

Engineer 2 Graduate:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Construction Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or its equivalency as rated by NCEES/EAC.

  • A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Two years post-graduation civil engineering work.

OR

  • A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or it’s equivalency as rated by NCEES/EAC AND

  • A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam

  • One (1) year of post-graduate civil engineering work.

OR

  • Received a passing score on the Minnesota Principals & Practices of Civil Engineering (PE) Exam.

Required at both the Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate Level:

  • Knowledge of project management techniques and tools.

  • Knowledge of project schedule development.

  • Valid Class D Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Highway Project management/project development experience

  • Extensive public involvement experience

  • Project Management Professional or similar credentials.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage the public, businesses, elected officials and other governmental organizations.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely sufficient to give direction, facilitate meetings, make public presentations, and answer project specific and policy questions.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, monitor, and control projects to ensure successful delivery.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work nights; may be required to work outside exposed to the weather elements (both hot and cold) on an intermittent basis. The employee will drive a motor vehicle in on and off road conditions. Periodically, the employee will walk on even and uneven/sloping ground. They will work extensively inside in an office environment. The employee must frequently and continually rotate through various body positions (standing, twisting, bending, sitting, kneeling, and squatting). The employee will occasionally operate machinery and equipment (using vision and hearing) under varying temperatures. The employee may need to infrequently move between 50 and 70 pounds by pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying. The employee must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment to protect the head, eyes, hearing, respiration, visibility and feet from injury. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to communicate through writing, speaking and hearing, and also able to communicate with the use of electronic communication equipment, i.e., telephone, 2-way radio, computer, etc.
