This position, located in the Air Data Analysis Unit, exists primarily to develop the Minnesota statewide air emission inventory for facilities in environmental justice areas and to assist with completion of the entire air emissions inventory. The Emission Inventory program works closely with facilities throughout Minnesota to collect, quality assure, review and store point source air emissions data for the state. This position also exists to provide Emission Inventory data and analysis to the Environmental Protection Agency, MPCA staff, other state and federal agencies, businesses, environmental and professional organizations, and citizens.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Conservation, Biology, Chemistry, or related field and 2 years of professional experience conducting professional-level environmental protection or pollution control experience. Experience must include data quality, data management and the use of analytical tools.

OR

Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Conservation, Biology, Chemistry, or related field and 1 year of professional experience conducting professional-level environmental protection or pollution control experience. Experience must include data quality, data management and the use of analytical tools.

OR

Three 3 years professional-level experience conducting professional-level environmental protection or pollution control experience. Experience must include data quality, data management and the use of analytical tools.

All candidates must have:

Critically review, assemble, document, and summarize information and data; communicate data results, independently complete assignments in a timely manner; and mentor and serve as a team member.

Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, collaboration skills, customer service skills, and planning/organization skills sufficient to perform senior-level professional work.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience assessing, measuring, and documenting the validity, reliability, and completeness of complex data sets.

Knowledge of air emission calculations and air pollution control and technology.

QA/QC data experience and experience working with large datasets with a wide variety of approaches and analytical tools such as Microsoft Access, Tableau, SQL, Snap Surveys, Excel, Visio, Python, R or other statistical analysis software.

Ability to:

Work effectively with others and coordinate with individuals involved in diverse environmental programs and research and to establish and maintain productive and open communications with business partners and other staff members.

Critically review, document, and summarize information and data into comprehensive recommendations, reports, and presentations.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

Additional Requirements

Position duties may require travel but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position. Employees who may drive for state business will need their driver’s license checked prior to operating a state vehicle.
