Property Operator, CNIB Lake Joe

Full Time, Temporary (6-months contract with the possibility of an extension)

Founded in 1918, CNIB is one of Canada’s oldest charities. For more than 60 years, CNIB Lake Joe has been providing exciting, safe, and accessible camp experiences for Canadians with sight loss. CNIB Lake Joe is looking for a Property Operator to help us bring the magic of summer camp to life for ‘kids of all ages’ with sight loss, and their families!

Your Impact at CNIB

  • Coordinate and prioritize maintenance tasks, ensuring timely completion.

  • Lead the coordination of pre and post core season preparation.

  • Oversee, maintain and repair buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment on the property.

  • Perform regular inspections to ensure all equipment and facilities are in good working order. This includes boats, vehicles, program equipment and fire protection, safety, security, communication, equipment and alarm systems.

  • Work with colleagues to coordinate and supervise external contractors for major repairs and renovations. Monitor and inspect contractors’ work, ensuring all is executed in accordance with relevant legislation and CNIB standards.

  • Maintain equipment and supplies inventory, purchasing necessary items as needed with appropriate approvals.

  • Maintain equipment logs and operational maintenance records.

  • Help develop and support daily, weekly, and monthly work plans.

  • Complete administrative duties (e.g., tracking, reporting, expense reports, etc.).

  • Support the development of operating and capital budgets.

  • Supervise seasonal maintenance staff.

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Maintain and store all supplies under WHMIS standards and ensure proper documentation of WHMIS data sheets where required.

  • Be on call and respond to facility emergencies and incidents as required.

  • Assist with specialty functions, including preparations and wrap up for fund development events, programs, etc.

  • Create positive interactions with internal and external stakeholders, including participants, visitors, staff, vendors, contractors, etc.

Who you are:

Education and Certifications

  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Trades' certifications are an asset.

  • Working at Heights Certificate is an asset.

  • Other relevant certifications are an asset.

  • Standard first aid and CPR certification.

  • Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Prior experience and knowledge in building systems, property/equipment maintenance and repairs, and landscaping, preferably in a camp or recreational setting.

  • Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with problem-solving abilities.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Experience in supervising staff and overseeing external contractors.

  • Ability to perform physical tasks and lift heavy objects. May be required to climb ladders and operate equipment (e.g., lawn mowers, snow removal machines, etc.).

  • Experience and understanding of the Ontario Building Code, National Fire Code, National Fire Protection Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other relevant codes, standards and regulations associated with the operations of the facility.

  • Valid driver's license and abstract is required with access to reliable transportation.

  • Proficient in MS Outlook.

  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and standards.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of WHMIS or willingness to acquire training.

  • Ability to work in a changing, deadline driven environment.

  • Understanding accessibility needs and experience working with individuals with visual impairments is an asset.

  • Good knowledge of the principles and practices of property management.

  • Experience in maintenance and small to mid-range construction projects is an asset.

  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.

  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.

  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.

Work Environment

  • Must have reliable transportation.

  • Outdoor work required in all seasons and may include exposure to the elements (e.g. precipitation, temperature, etc.).

  • Exposure to chemicals and commercial products (e.g. cleaning solvents, fuel, oil, etc.).

  • Heavy lifting at times (up to 50 lbs).

  • Personal Protective Equipment may be required (e.g. safety footwear, protective glasses, harness, masks, etc.).
