Eastern Bank Credit Risk Review Specialist II, VP (Hybrid) in Lynn, Massachusetts

*Please note this is a hybrid position in our Lynn, MA office requires some onsite**

The job’s mission is to provide the Bank with an independent mechanism to assist in early detection of loan problems, assurance of accurate loan ratings, monitor compliance with policies, procedures and regulations, and assurance of proper portfolio administration of SVP/VP Relationship Managers and VP/Portfolio Managers.

The Vice President, Credit Risk Review Specialist II role serves as a second line of defense for commercial lending and is within the Enterprise Risk Management Division. Primarily responsible for reviewing complex commercial loans to ensure proper identification of risk, adherence to policy and procedures, compliance with rules and banking regulations, risk administration and complete credit and legal documentation. Assesses risk management and loan portfolio quality of commercial and business banking lending groups.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Conduct continuous reviews of all types of commercial loans and commitments including Syndications, Participations, Leverage Lending, Commercial & Industrial, Commercial Real Estate Entity Level Finance, Low Income Housing Tax Credit Investor Financing, Franchise Lending, Asset Based Lending, Private Banking, Private Banking, ACH, and New Market Tax Credit deals to classify loans, identify potential credit problems, and ensure conformity with Bank policy, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Review major or complex loans, including those with deteriorating credit situations, and make recommendations for improving the Bank’s position if necessary.

  • Review legal documents to ensure conformity with approved credit facility. Legal documentation includes promissory notes, security agreement, credit agreement, borrowing resolutions, corporate/LLC/partnership documents, participation agreements, mortgages and assignments of leases and rents, and interest rate derivatives.

  • Research

  • Public registry of deed records to ensure mortgages are perfected.

  • Secretary of State records to ensure UCC filings and renewals are recorded.

  • Analyze financial statements and notes, Borrowing Base Certificates, Accounts Receivable, Work in Process, Operating Statements, Real Estate Appraisals, Appraisal Reviews, Equipment Evaluations to confirm risk rating and conformity to financial covenants.

  • Prepare findings reports and written management reports assessing:

  • Loan portfolio quality including classified loans, special mention loans, charge-off history, delinquency, and nonaccrual loans.

  • Risk management quality addressing identification of risk, adherence to policy, credit administration, problem credit management, and credit and legal documentation.

  • Conducts

  • Quality control review of Findings Reports and Management reports.

  • Serves as Reviewer in Charge

  • Confidential due diligence reviews of potential acquisition or merger institutions

  • Special projects

  • All other dues as assigned.

PROBLEM SOLVING & DECISION MAKING :

  • The VP position has autonomy with respect to assessing identification of risk, adherence to lending policy, risk management and legal/credit file documentation process review factors.

  • VP reports to the Team Leader of Credit Risk Review, with limited direction.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting or finance

  • 7 to 10 years of credit risk review preferred.

  • Commercial lending, regulatory examination, and/or portfolio management experience are beneficial to this role.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Strong financial analytical skills, evident of sound credit judgment, understanding of commercial legal documentation, outstanding oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently are critical.

  • Advanced training which can include either Loan Review Certification or Risk Certification a plus.

  • Ability to formulate sound conclusions and recommend optimal course of action based on analysis.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of the commercial credit risk process.

  • Strong PC skills and teamwork required.
