Eastern Bank AVP, Data Governance Analyst in Lynn, Massachusetts

The AVP Data Governance Analyst will work with stakeholders across the organization to ensure data is collected, stored, shared, and reported in a manner consistent with the Data Governance policy and the needs of the company. They will undertake the establishment and implementation of the enterprise-wide Data Governance program, including policies and processes covering data access and use, data security, metadata management, privacy, data quality, and more. They will also seek out program, process, and technological improvements that will foster improved data quality and appropriate use of data, eliminate redundancies, and reduce the data reporting burden using better data collection and data use processes and tools.

  • Create and contribute to actionable Data Governance policies and standards applicable to data stewards, data custodians, and data owners. Support rollout implementation and implement effective adherence monitoring and measurement.

  • Act as a data governance subject matter expert in the review of data sourcing, usage, and control requirements associated with complex business and technology projects. Assess solution suitability, identify concerns, and put forth adjustments where appropriate.

  • Lead initiatives that deliver improvements to the end-to-end data lifecycle, across data definition, ingestion, processing, access, data quality, analytics, compliance, retention, and destruction.

  • Act as a point of escalation for governance, data quality, and protection issues.

  • Improve the business value of core data assets through direct involvement in projects, aiding data owners, stewards, analysts, and engineers in solution optimization and problem resolution

  • Recommend improvements to data management policies, procedures, and infrastructure based on research and best practices and ensure alignment with Corporate Data Governance Office protocols.

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and industry regulations regarding data security and integrity.

  • Support data-focused audits to ensure that they are being addressed appropriately and accurately.

Problem Solving & Decision Making:

This position requires the ability to work independently and provide sound discretion and judgement. There will be a significant amount of collaboration with other areas which will require strong organizational skills. Also, a high level of accuracy and detail is needed as the major responsibilities are visible to senior management, the board of directors, and regulators.

Because Data Governance is a developing function at the bank, problems may arise that require the ability to quickly solve or adapt processes to an ever-changing structure. Problems could come from internal sources, external changes in regulation, or regulatory comments. Problems will be solved in both an independent and group atmosphere. Solutions will be discussed, and recommendations are expected to be presented

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent, related experience.

  • 6-8 years of experience in the areas of Data Governance, data analysis, project management, or sales/customer relations

Skills/Knowledge

  • The position requires strong communication, facilitation, and project management skills, experience with data use and policies within a highly regulated industry, and an understanding of IT concepts and systems.

  • Critical thinking skills (Ability to process and organize facts to develop multiple solutions to a problem.)

  • Strong soft skills (Ability to quickly forge positive working relationships, engage, and inspire colleagues.)

  • High-level understanding of data ecosystems and how data typically flows through them.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work and learn independently.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate complex topics to nontechnical individuals.
