Tufts Medicine PICC Line Technician in Lowell, Massachusetts

The PICC Line Technician performs services in a designated area according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the department and the hospital. Works cooperatively within the department and other services, to create a system of quality health care.

Hours: Full-Time / Days / 40 hours a week/ 9am-5:30pm / EOW

Position Description:

  • Independently functions in a professional manner as the PICC Line Technician for PICC line procedures in various departments throughout the hospital.

  • Selects and prepares (after consultation with the PICC RN) the appropriate supplies and equipment needed for PICC line insertion, exchange, or troubleshooting of PICC Lines

  • Assists with positioning of patient, acts as “empowered observer” of the PICC Nurse’s sterile technique a, and performs related activities under the direction of the PICC nurse, not limited to direct patient care when needed.

  • When not assisting the PICC nurse with insertions, the PICC Technician will be responsible for maintaining supplies for PICC cart, cleaning of PICC equipment, and preparing for the next case.

  • The PICC technician will participate in activities related to quality improvement, continuing education, orientation of new personnel and emergency preparedness.

  • The PICC Line Tech will maintain current knowledge in areas of surgical aseptic technique, pre-operative care, support of the PICC Line patient under direct RN supervision, provide patient transportation if needed, the ordering of supplies, charge data, and order entry as needed.

    Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Recent nursing assistant experience preferred or clinical rotation as part of nursing program

  • Works cohesively as a member of the patient care team

  • The ability to work under stressful conditions, adapting to the changing pace on the unit, frequent interruptions, emergencies and critically ill patients.

  • The ability to recognize patient data relative to age specific needs and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures.

  • The ability to organize and prioritize work.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Adheres to hospital / departmental dress code.

  • Adheres to hospital’s time and attendance procedure
