Cedars-Sinai Histologist - Pathology - Full Time - Nights in Los Angeles, California

The Histologist functions with general direction from supervisory personnel. Responsibilities include performing routine and technically complex laboratory procedures requiring cognitive, manipulative and problem solving skills. The Histologist’s activities include operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, monitoring and evaluating the quality of tissue processing, verifying and evaluating quality control results, and resolving technical and quality control problems. Additional duties include general support functions necessary for the routine operation of the laboratory. Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to the developmental issues of the patient population(s) being served.

Experience:

Five years full-time histologist experience in histopathology or immunopathology. The two-years must be under the supervision of a certified pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology, or eligible), or an appropriately certified medical scientist.

Educational Requirements:

A high school diploma. AA degree or higher in biological sciences preferred

License/Certification/Registration Requirements:

Certification as a Histologist Technician (HT, ASCP) or Histotechnologist (HTL, ASCP) or equivalent from a comparable certifying agency.

Physical Demands:

Demonstrated skills in histopathology procedures such as tissue processing, embedding, cutting, staining or frozen sectioning. Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with peers, patients, physicians and other customers of the medical center. Full command (verbal and written) of the English language. Physical Demands: (e.g., lifting, standing, walking) Frequent sitting and standing; occasional walking and bending; occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds for distances to 10 feet. Near visual acuity including color differentiation.

Exposure to minimal but constant noise levels. Repetitive hand motions.

Daily functions may include incidental exposure to hazards associated with:

Automation: close proximity to moving mechanical parts. Chemicals: (reagents, carcinogens, radioactive materials, corrosives, flammables and fumes).

Patient specimens and sharps Most functions may require use of protective gear such as face shields, gloves, and fluid-resistant coats.
