UCLA Health Associate Controller in Los Angeles, California
The DGSOM Assistant Controller is a key member of the DGSOM
finance team reporting to the DGSOM Controller. In partnership with the DGSOM
Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for the implementation and
maintenance of an appropriate internal control environment, risk assessment and
management, policy interpretation and regulatory compliance, accounting
procedures and operations, and financial reporting for the entire DGSOM. The

The Assistant Controller manages a staff of four (4) members
and is a leader in the improvement and maintenance of DGSOM's financial control
structure through management of certain initiatives as directed by the DGSOM
Controller. In this endeavor, the Assistant Controller will work directly with
UCLA Corporate Financial Services (CFS) and other central campus organizations
as well as all of the DGSOM departments to identify opportunities to improve
both the efficiency and effectiveness of financial controls in the DGSOM. The
Assistant Controller also leads the implementation of such initiatives as
assigned by the DGSOM Controller and provides expert
consultant advice to the departments during external and internal
reviews/audits and ensures timely and appropriate development and
implementation of management corrective action plans, as needed.Qualifications
Bachelors and/or Masters Degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in accounting, is preferred.
Big Four' or national accounting firm experience is preferred.
Seven (7) plus years of experience in the accounting or finance sector.
Five (5) plus years of experience in managing accountants and the accounting and finance process.
Strong understanding of GAAP, GASB, and SAS 115.
Strong accounting experience in higher education or a comparable non-profit fund accounting environment is preferred.
Good analytical skills and the ability to synthesize large amounts of information.
Demonstrated problem solving skills; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem-solving situations.
Demonstrated commitment to quality and accuracy; looks for ways to improve and promote quality; applies feedback to improve performance; and monitors own work to ensure quality.
Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
Demonstrated experience as an effective team leader.
Demonstrates a high-level of ethics, integrity, discretion, and confidentiality and appreciates the standards representing a professional accountant. CPA license is preferred.
