This Opportunity

We are currently looking to fill a full-time Intake Counsellor position within our Accessibility Services team.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assess the need and eligibility of applications for modifications, adaptations, and devices in accordance with organizational and stakeholder policies, procedures, and best practices.

  • Provide system navigation and one-on-one support to clients, vendors, and healthcare professionals to receive completed application packages.

  • Follow up on incomplete applications and respond to all program communication and inquiries.

  • Ensure all documents and eligibility criteria are validated and processed in the MODC client database for funding review, aiming to create an accessible, barrier-free living space where people with disabilities can complete daily activities or enter/exit their homes safely and independently.

  • Respond to program inquiries and information received via phone, email, fax, and mail with a client-focused attitude.

  • Assist clients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders in navigating services and providing appropriate referrals.

  • Review applications and supporting documents against eligibility and program metrics.

  • Maintain a caseload compliant with departmental policies and procedures.

  • Process applications into the client database and complete follow-up for required documentation as needed.

  • Send out correspondence regarding file outcomes and decisions.

  • Operationalize MODC strategic goals and objectives.

  • Maintain current knowledge of the accessibility industry, including barrier-free modifications, adaptations, and devices.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Post-secondary degree or previous office experience with a funding program or social services program.

  • Effective Communication: Ability to listen actively, explain complex information clearly, and maintain open lines of communication both verbally and in writing. Fluency in French is considered an asset.

  • Time Management and Organization: Ability to support multiple clients and perform various tasks simultaneously with strong organizational skills to prioritize and manage caseload effectively.

  • Assessment and Problem-Solving: Capability to assess clients’ needs, identify problems, and develop effective solutions using critical thinking and analysis.

  • Case Notes and File Management: Proficiency in maintaining accurate and detailed case notes and documentation tracking clients’ progress, outcomes, and interactions.

  • Empathy and Compassion: Demonstrate empathy and compassion to help clients feel understood and supported, fostering trust and positive relationships.

  • Cultural Competence: Sensitivity and understanding of diverse populations to build trust and deliver effective services.

  • Collaboration: Ability to work as part of a team with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring a holistic approach and coordinated service delivery.

  • Adaptability: Flexibility to deal with shifting circumstances and evolving needs.
