National Grid Media and Campaigns Manager in London, United Kingdom

We’re looking for a passionate Media and Campaigns Manager to join the Corporate Affairs team within National Grid Ventures to build and help others to build the reputations that National Grid needs to succeed in the short and long term. For the Media and Campaigns Manager this means building National Grid’s reputation and enhancing the company’s media profile. National Grid Ventures is the division of the National Grid Group which, in the UK, owns and operates our fleet of six interconnectors and Grain LNG, Europe’s largest LNG port.

This role is based out of our Strand or Warwick office, and we’d hope to see you at least two days per week but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You'll Do

  • Work with colleagues in media teams across the other National Grid divisions to source and capitalise upon proactive media opportunities.

  • Manage all reactive media handling, including horizon scanning, issues management, taking ownership for lines to take/key messages, updating and embedding these in key communications.

  • Build National Grid’s reputation and influence key stakeholders externally through strategic corporate campaigns which you will support on the management and delivery of.

  • Monitor and measure National Grid’s external media successes on issues and campaigns and help identify lessons learned.

  • Work across the business to pro-actively develop and/or shape media lines and in line with overall company narrative and advising the wider business on the style, tone, and content of messaging to maximise impact.

  • Work with the NGV Corporate Affairs team to pro-actively advise senior leaders on political intelligence and insight that will impact the business to support business development.

  • Work effectively within a highly matrixed environment with reporting lines into the NGV business units and the National Grid Corporate Affairs team.

  • Maintain a network of external contacts including journalists and other stakeholders to promote company interests and pro-actively share intelligence from this activity back into the business.

  • Support the delivery of corporate strategic campaigns, working with Corporate Communications & Brand tailoring message development and stakeholder mapping and engagement.

  • Contribute to running of the Corporate Affairs function, supporting corporate affairs activity grid, fully utilise full suite of project and stakeholder management tools, ensuring that duplication and overlap of activities with other parts of the function are minimised.

  • Anticipate and identify current and future strategic issues and trends of commercial interest, working closely with the wider Corporate Affairs, Business Development, IR, and Corporate Strategy teams, and pro-actively provide this insight and intelligence to senior leaders, to help shape business commercial decisions.

What You'll Have

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline (business, communication, policy), with demonstrable professional development.

  • Track record of building and maintaining positive and constructive relationships with journalists of different types.

  • Proven experience of successful campaigning at a senior level within a regulated, multi-stakeholder environment.

  • Desirable experience and knowledge of the key external industry and non-industry stakeholders which relate to and impact on the energy sector (governmental, regulatory, NGOs, communities, agencies, industry bodies etc.).

  • Experience of successfully working and influencing internal stakeholders in a large complex organisation, working in a collaborative manner to plan and deliver integrated campaigns.

  • Able to prioritise and manage competing issues, working with and through others – maintaining high and consistent standards and alignment with National Grid, working at pace and with minimal guidance.

  • Understanding of the role of digital in delivering campaigns, providing intelligence and insights, anticipating, identifying, and managing issues and risks and their interconnections and assessing outcomes and impacts.

  • Highly organised and strong attention to detail.

  • Results orientated, able to manage timely delivery in a challenging environment, and able to deal with rapid change, complexity, and ambiguity.

  • Ability to deliver results through others.Strategic thinker with ability to contribute to key communications and policy decisions by interpreting internal and external trends and changes.

What You'll Get

Up to £72,000 dependent on experience.

Plus:

  • Up to 15% Annual Bonus (based on personal and company performance).
