S&P Global Extranet Network Engineer in London, United Kingdom

About the Role:

The Role:

A significant part of our services are delivered via private connections alongside many via the internet and the Extranets team covers all client connectivity globally across our constituent companies.

As an Extranet engineer, you would manage all client connections be they new, enhancements, or product additions and cover their whole lifecycle.

A point of contact for client-based queries, escalations and where needed assist in operational issues. This will include travel to customer sites, an out of hours and weekend work where required.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is adaptable and willing to learn new technologies and has input into optimising the current estate and future-proofing our methods for client connectivity.

This is a client-facing role where you will need to constantly interact with our clients and have good awareness of the multiple products we provide.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Computer Science or a related subject or the equivalent in knowledge and work experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with networks operations

  • Maintaining external client connectivity be it traditional leased lines/routers, VPNs, x-connects and various vendor cloud connectivity methods (Alkira, Equinix ECX, Packet Fabric)

  • Familiarity with colocation sites, 3rd party hosting

  • Solid understanding of networking network protocols including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, and HTTPS.

  • Experience with monitoring systems

  • Troubleshooting, resolving and communicating networking issues to colleagues be they infrastructure or the wider Operations team

  • Ability to work with other teams such as Linux, Database, Cloud when solving technical issues

  • Confidence to work with large financial organisations who form the core of our customer base

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Producing concise and accurate documentation

Desired Skills

  • Working experience in the financial industry

  • Hands-on experience with Linux operating systems

  • Experience using network automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Git and Python

  • Experience from AWS Networking
