National Grid Development Engineering Manager in London, United Kingdom

About the role

We are looking for Development Engineering Managers to join our Customer Connections team based in our South (London & SE, M4 corridor – Bristol to Reading, South Coast, South West & Wales) and Central ( M1 corridor – Nottingham to Luton, East Anglia, Norwich, Cambridge & Chelmsford) regions . This is a hybrid position in which you will be working from home, site and office as and when required.

As the Development Engineering Manager, you’ll lead a high performing team of professional engineers, delivering the requirements of National Grid’s Network Development Process (NDP) for al pre-construction phases of design whilst ensuring customers receive excellent levels of service.

You will be ensuring we provide a responsive service for new enquiries into our business and engaging to understand customer requirements – providing insight into our network. You will be approving a development strategy including the appropriate use of Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) support and where required, and own the FEED budget for all work within a given portfolio.

National Grid owns and maintains the high-voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales. Every time a switch is turned on, we’ve played a part, connecting you to the electricity you need.

Between 2022 and 2026, we expect to invest up to £40 billion in critical infrastructure, of which £29 billion will go directly to decarbonise our energy network, to achieve the UK’s Net Zero ambition.

This is a hybrid role covering our South region and you will be expected to work from home, site and the office as and when needed.

About you

What we do isn’t just important – it’s essential. We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Relevant Degree or equivalent qualification(s) and/or relevant experience in a related field is essential.

  • Proficient technical knowledge of the Electricity Transmission System and the primary transmission assets,

  • Excellent Project Management Skills,

  • Contract Management Experience / Commercial Acumen,

  • Understanding of RIIO mechanisms and the way that National Grid delivers revenue under the regulatory framework,

  • Accomplished knowledge and application of CDM, Safety and Environmental Regulations,

  • Advanced business writing and communication skills,

  • Demonstrable experience of problem solving and an appetite for continuous improvement in relation to both their own development and that of the team,

  • Demonstrable experience of identifying and implementing business improvement initiatives that have led to cost saving and/or improved efficiency,

  • Knowledge of the NETS and Power Systems Concepts.
