National Grid Assistant Manager - Group External Reporting in London, United Kingdom

We’re looking for a passionate Assistant Manager – Group External Reporting to join our Group External Reporting team working on the monthly Group consolidation, including preparation and ownership of the Group Cashflow Statement. You will be the key point of contact for business units across the UK and US ensuring the timely submission of accurate monthly Group reporting. Additionally, you will also work on the production of National Grid plc’s half year results statement and full year Annual Report and Accounts (ARA) and 20F preparing key disclosure notes and operating key SOx controls.

This role is based out of our Strand office, and we’d hope to see you at least 2/3 days per week but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You’ll Do

  • Participate as part of a small team who run the month-end Group consolidation, tracking submissions and working with subsidiary teams and the Group Financial Planning and Analysis team to ensure awareness and adherence to the month-end timetable.

  • Posting monthly consolidation and elimination journals, also working with businesses and the Group Systems manager, to reduce the number of Group journals posted via automation and other initiatives.

  • Reviewing the output of the system generated month-end validation report, ensuring validation flags are investigated and resolved, also executing other manual validation checks.

  • Provide operational advice and expertise to the wider financial control team on reporting and other issues to improve operational efficiency and information exchange.

  • Preparation of the Group cashflow statement, this involves posting cashflow only journals where required and running key cashflow validation checks and proofs.

  • Working in partnership with the Senior Group External Reporting Manager responsible for the ARA, to coordinate the year end and half year reporting process for the Group, including timetable preparation, preparation of group reporting instructions for subsidiary finance teams, and day to- day management of the reporting process, with a view to continual process enhancement, evolution and improvement in line with best practice.

  • Produce disclosures and operate key Sox controls for the half year results statement and year-end annual report and accounts.

  • Work in the disclosure system Wdesk. Rolling forward and drafting disclosures and proposing changes in light of latest regulatory pronouncements.

  • Responsible for liaising with auditors on deliverables and issues arising during the statutory reporting process, along with internal auditors and SOX controls teams.

  • Contribute to solutions for the improvement of the reporting and transaction processes, including working on system and improvements in the Group Reporting systems (Workiva and BPC) and implementing any changes with the business unit and functional finance teams in the UK and US.

  • Provide operational advice and expertise to the wider Finance team on consolidation, reporting and other issues to improve operational efficiency and information exchange.

What You'll Have

  • A Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with ideally 1-2 years of post-qualification experience

  • Experience of financial reporting and or external audit of large FTSE listed companies.

  • Good understanding of core financial processes

  • You take ownership of tasks and have a strong drive for results.

  • You’re adept with accounting and reporting pronouncements and have some knowledge of governance, risk, and internal control frameworks.

  • Pragmatic can adapt quickly to a changing environment and can adapt approaches and utilise and align skills to different customer groups.

  • Strong stakeholder management, influencing and collaboration skills.

  • Strong results orientation.

  • You have a with a thirst for improvement through operational efficiency and information exchange
