National Grid is hiring a Power Telecom Operations Senior Instructor for our Technical Training department in Syracuse, NY. This role is primarily onsite.

Job Purpose

The Power Telecom Operations (PTO) Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality, technical training programs focused on Power Telecom Operations and complex metering systems within the utility sector. This role prioritizes hands-on instruction and practical application, ensuring that participants gain comprehensive knowledge and skills necessary for effective operation and maintenance of protection, telecommunication and metering equipment. The instructor will develop and implement training curricula, facilitate engaging learning experiences, and assess participant performance to uphold the highest standards of safety and technical proficiency. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence, the instructor will contribute to the overall competency and effectiveness of the PTO workforce at National Grid.

Key Accountabilities

• Delivery of Training Programs: Conduct high-quality, technical training sessions focused on protection, metering and telecommunication systems, ensuring hands-on instruction and practical application for learners with diverse levels of expertise.

• Curriculum Development: Collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to create, revise, and enhance training curricula, integrating industry best practices and emerging trends to ensure relevance and effectiveness.

• Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive assessments and evaluations to measure the effectiveness of training programs, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes to enhance learning outcomes.

• Collaboration and Innovation: Engage with the Business Unit and relevant entities to stay informed about technological advancements in the field, working alongside the Innovation and Design team to incorporate updates into training materials and delivery methods.

• Feedback Integration: Gather insights and feedback from the business regarding trends that impact the quality of field operations, using this information to continuously improve training content and delivery.

• Training Coordination: Proactively coordinate and schedule training sessions, ensuring optimal utilization of resources and effective delivery of training programs.

• Technical Assistance: Provide advanced technical assistance and guidance to learners during training sessions, focusing on optimizing learning objectives for individuals with diverse neurological profiles.

• Record Maintenance: Ensure the maintenance of accurate records related to training activities, attendance, and learner performance to support continuous improvement and accountability.

• Practical Simulations: Conduct practical advanced simulations of field operations, providing learners with hands-on experience that enhances their understanding and application of technical concepts.

• Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for all levels of Field Operations, offering expertise to represented and management employees, as well as external vendors and contractors, to support operational excellence.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.

• Bachelor's Degree with three years of experience in protective relaying or a similar technical field, including customer service and employee supervision, OR

• Associate’s degree with five years of experience in protective relaying or a similar technical field, including customer service and employee supervision, OR

• Minimum of seven years of experience in protective relaying or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

• Experience in technical instruction.

• Experience in course development.

• Experience in protective relay and/or telecommunication and meter testing.

Salary

$94k - $110k a year
