National Association of Insurance Commissioners Postdoctoral Research - Insurance and Risk Management in Kansas City, Missouri

Job Description:

The Center for Insurance Policy and Research (CIPR) at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is seeking applicants for one or two postdoctoral research positions. This is a f ull-time/temporary position with preference for a candidate to work out of Kansas City, MO, USA; potential consideration for New York City or Washing ton , DC offices. The position is a one year * *with the possibility of extending for an additional year based on first year evaluation.

The CIPR seeks applicants with expertise and/or interest in the quantitative analysis of issues related to at least one of the following: risk management, insurance, regulation, health and long-term care, natural catastrophes/climate and resiliency, artificial intelligence and big data, cyber risk, investment finance, financial solvency monitoring, and/or international insurance supervision.

Postdoctoral researchers work alongside experienced researchers to conduct applied research to inform NAIC members and staff on key issues of concern, with an emphasis on leveraging available NAIC data where applicable. CIPR researchers also engage in basic research to expand the state of knowledge in risk management and insurance and insurance-related issues. Further, CIPR researchers maintain strong ties with academia and related research centers.

Clear and concise presentation of research results in both written and oral form is expected. Candidates should have strong skills in data analysis and statistical modeling. Also important is to be able to work collaboratively in a team environment. Postdoctoral fellows spend a significant amount of their time on CIPR research projects working with the CIPR research team and other NAIC staff but also have the flexibility to pursue their own related research.

Minimum requirements

Postdoctoral fellows must have received their Ph.D. in the last two years in economics, finance, risk management and insurance, or a related field.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. (expected completion by the summer of 2025 is acceptable) from an accredited institution in a related field. Incomplete applications will not be considered. We plan to undertake first-round interviews in August/September 202 4 .

Preferred Skills

Artificial intelligence and machine learning; advanced data science skills, including SQL and scripting languages like R, Python, and/or VBA; and geographic information systems (GIS).

Compensation

$80,000 - $83,500, commensurate with education and experience.
